How to use the black and white tool on a layer/mask?

Hello,

How can I use the black and white tool on a layer? After drawing a mask on a layer the tool still changes the entire picture and not only the masked area. Is the black and white tool not applicable for layers?

    B&W doesn't work on layers. This tool and a few more remaining are background layer only, and are not supported on layers. Vignetting, Base Characteristics and Film Grain are probably the only other remaining tools like that. Please use the feature request section to emphasize how important this is for you to let the company know.
