Report it to Capture One. Use the link "Submit a request" near the upper right hand corner.

    Ben,

Does this relate to a catalog or a session or to both?

It relates to a catalog. Before the update everything works fine, but now the masks are gone.

You should find that C1 has created a backup copy of the important technical parts of the catalog in case you might need to revert to a previous version.

So all should not be lost. However, what may have led to the apparent loss of the masks needs to be understood.

Were you running version 14.2 before the upgrade or some older version?

Either way, be sure to take the advice offered by OddS in his reply to your post.

This has just happened to me as well!! Absolute catastrophe if it cannot be put right.... I have all my backups etc. I have a huge catalogue with many many adjustments. I have no idea what to do to fix it...

Did you do a C1 version upgrade?

I suggest to uninstall the newer version, download your former version and copy the backup files back to your usual location. Leave your backup files untouched!

You will lose the work done with the newer version though.

With my past problems with losing masks I never saw a message, C1 lost them silently. Maybe they improved their code but not enough to tell you which images are concerned?

Don't count on C1 that it will restore your mask, not even with a eventually upcoming bug fix version, my past experience with lost masks was always that they were lost forever even when they fixed the root cause for losing masks in the software.

Thanks BeO. I had no message of warning and have done lots of work on new photos before checking any of the old ones.  NIGHTMARE! Do I need to restore the most recent backup made with the old version? I am not sure exactly when that was....how would I know which backup to use?

Haven't heard from Capture One about this issue yet! I decided to save all my photos in which I added masks as EIP (Enhanced Image Package). Perhaps the problem can be avoided. At least I hope so.

    Anne,

When you start to use a new version C1 will usually create a copy of the current catalog or session before updating to the new requirement.

You can bring that back into play with the previous version by renaming it. There is a FAQ article somewhere on the website that covers the subject.

If using Sessions the edit files should be held in a separate folder related specifically to the version/releases  with which they will be compatible and that were used to create them in the first place. Likewise, the User Config settings related to a specific version/release should be retained automatically at the time of update. So reverting to an earlier version's edit in the state they were at at the time of update should be quite easy.

Thanks SFA. I decided to try reloading the pre-update catalogue into the new version (after copying it twice!) I have done so and my masks are magically restored. I have quickly back it all up. I have lost some work, but
If the masks stick then it will be worth it as I do love the features of the new C1. Fingers firmly crossed!! Thanks all for your help.
