Lightroom Classic feels 3x faster than Capture One on M1 Pro Macbook
I just switched from Windows to M1 Pro Macbook. When I use Windows, I feel Capture One is about 0.5x faster than Lightroom Classic. Now on M1 Pro Macbook, Lightroom feels like 3x faster than Capture One. What just happened? Is Lightroom Classic better optimized for the M1 chip?

Capture One is incredibly slow on my M1 Max MacBook Pro too. When searching for a file – pasting the file name in the search field – it takes Capture One about 8 seconds to locate it, during which time it becomes unresponsive, whereas in Lightroom Classic it takes less than a second. (And I have more photos in my Lightroom catalogue than in my Capture One catalogue.)

Capture One does not work well on my M1 iMac either. I have 16gig RAM and 1 TB SSD and I run out of memory every time I use it - including the C1 '22 edition. Unfortunately, I think I need to go back to Lightroom because C1 organization seems unwilling or unable to address the issue...I would even take finger-pointing to Apple, but instead I get nothing ;-(

Regarding catalogue speed, see this topic also.

Same for me, M1 mac user who finds C1 to be incredibly slow and laggy - just doing simple things like drawing a mask. Sometimes when I'm exporting files, as I type the folder destination the letters appear delayed as I type! What the hell!!! Other applications such as Affinity run blazingly fast. The first m1 release seemed ok but the current release (15.1.1.0.12) is awful! I'm paying monthly so have to option to dive out and back to LR, as much as I love the way C1 handles Fuji files and is great for tethering. As a professional this is unacceptable.

I've seen the same with smart album rules, the letters appearing very slowly, one by one, a while after they've been typed.

Interested in this thread. I have similar issues, recently purchased a mac 24, 16gb ram. Lr/ps, Affinity photo & nik collection all run seamlessly, C1 is painfully slow to the point its unusable. C1 tech support are equally as slow. The release notes of the latest update recommends doubling the recommended system requirements if using a monitor with greater than 4k resolution. To me that's a totally unacceptable response. Has anyone else been given any advice from C1 on how to resolve these issues?

Yes, it is known that the C1 requires a lot of video memory. I had the first 5K iMac. The C1 support wrote to me that the iMac is not a Pro device, the graphics card is too slow (R9 M295X Grafikprozessor mit 4 GB). It also seems that there are special problems with loading Sony uncompressed and Sony Lossless (Nikon Z9 loads faster) - or loading takes 1". That's why I bought a Mac Studio with 64GB - so I'm disappointed with how slow C1 is.
The problem is known - but due to the large fan base, the C1 is not seen as such - thanks to successful marketing. Many users are also satisfied with the speed and think they couldn't go any faster.
A changeover is just difficult if you have bet on the wrong horse.0 -
Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro M1 16Go. And encounter huge slowness in displaying almost everything: drawing masks, changes in settings, achieving a sharp preview...
Sometimes I have to wait for 3 to 5 seconds before the mask is displayed or changed with the brush. It is indeed unacceptable.I ask several times CO team for a solution, so far it didn't work.

Customer support is not this company's strongest side.

I don't think Capture One is making the grade anymore. I find it incredibly slow and it makes me want to try Lightroom again or Darktable. C1 is also 4 times more expensive than Lightroom
