Import into session from memory card seriously slow!

Hi

In 10 minutes I've imported 9 images from a memory card connected to a docking port which in turn connects via usb.  The other 227 are estimated to take 3 hours.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

I'm on a 24"Imac with 16gb memory, 512mb internal ssd running macOS Monterey

  Copy them with Finder and see how this goes.

  Thanks for the response BeO. I haven't tried that but it would make sense. 

  Separately I noticed macOS Monterey was due an update and following that update the import was successful in a timely manner.
