Allow for two tool panels (left and right) instead of only one
For those with limited screen space it would be great to split tools between left and right side.
E.g. editing tools on one side and Library/Metadata on the other. The browser could be made a tool as well and then integrated in one of the sides.
Please add that option in one of the future releases. It is the one thing regarding UI-customizability that is really missing.
Thank you!

The browser could be made a tool as well
If I remember right I have requested this as well.
Until your request is implemented try if you can utilize your limited screen better if you use floating tools instead of the tool panel. You can group them together in different groups and expand collapse them separatly.
Floating tools would work even better if you could make them invisible with a single button click, please vote here if you think so too:
Try the F10 separate viewer too.

I actually tried using floating controls, but it is not as convenient, since they are overlaying the image or other controls. That is why a second tool bar would give an advantage.
Your suggestion would make floating tools at least more usable, so I gave it a upvote.
The F10 viewer is not really helpful in a single monitor setup. If I had two monitors instead of a laptop, I would surely use it.

Thank you Jens.
You are right, F10 Viewer is not that helpful with one monitor, F (full screen) is better.
On my 13inch notebook I sometimes prefer the floating tools which I drag out of the way if needed for two reasons, (1) it lets me look behind the tools on the image, if they are collapsed or even dragged 90% outside the screen, and (2) I sometimes hate the visual "flickering" when showing/hiding the tools panel because not only the tools come up or go but also the image viewer is resized (Windows, not Mac, I know on Mac there is a tools and brower flyout window which assumingly lets the viewer size as-is). This flickering / image relocation annoys me and is often "disconnecting" me with the image in front of me.
Floating tools collapsed and in full screen mode (key F):

I'd love to have the ability to fix tool panels at both sides of the main UI. The way I get around it currently is to un-maximize C1, drag it in from the left to make some space outside the main UI, position some floating tools in the space as though it was a second fixed panel. I've saved this layout as a workspace too in case I accidentally move something (now it's not maximized) so I can put everything back where I want it. Not 100% ideal but it works for me.

Simon, this sounds an interesting way to arrange the C1 tool bars. Similar to Lr, having the navigation/ keywords/ filter on one side and all editing/ development tools on the other side. Will try it out:)

I'm maybe not understanding something, but I don't see how having tools on both sides is helpful if you have limited screen space. Doesn't that leave less room for the image?

@Ian Wilson: limited screen space was meant in terms of height. Having the layers tool open and the the histogram, leaves only limited space below to see tools. Therefore scrolling is needed very often.
That's why a second toolbar would come in handy. Simons suggestions goes into the right direction. It would just be good the have it built in. If the toolbars then could be made visible separately (with shortcuts ;-) ) it would be perfect

@Jens
I agree that vertical space is precious in C1, for instance to allow direct access to layers without having to scroll within the layers selection pane.
This is why I suggested to reconsider the recent change to the placement of the "add/remove layer" icons because the new layout is wasteful with respect to vertical space.
