Some possible improvements
Hello,
First of all sorry if my English isn't perfect.
Though i love C1 with it's many great features there are things that are still very unpractical imo.
1. (probably mentioned many times by others) the lack of history.
Clicking CMND-Z and shift CMND-Z multiple times and just hoping to get back to the status that you want on the right layer/ tool/ file is like working blind and you can get lost when there is a jump to another image you apparently clicked before in the proces. Especially for an application that autosaves its important not to mess up.
2. Even more i miss: an option for a short key "last status on/off". So a one key switch instead of going back one step further all the time with two keys.
This is so important to judge an adjustment. I want to switch easy between before and after. Now the only option is to constant change your fingers position to do CMND-Z en SHIFT CMND-Z (or two other programmed keys). Of course this goes wrong when you do it quickly a couple of times and i want to concentrate on the image only.
3. (Un)check boxes on each tool or even slider would be very helpful to judge it's effect without throwing the adjustment away. Alt-click and hold on the tiny undo arrow (two hands..) of the tabs is really not a pleasant way for such an important thing when you want to concentrate on the image. Point 2 and/or 3 are essential i think...
4. It would be nice if each active layer would light up the tools used in it. Now you have to search. Especially because there is no visualization of masks on them it's not clear at one look which layer is which adjustment.
5. A short key for the brush opacity please. 1=10%, twice 2 =22%, 0= 100%. Left mouse key (even more so with CNTRL click on a Mac) to make adjustments constantly is very time consuming to make changes through the image. Also constant visibility of the brush opacity level without having to go left click mouse every time to check would be useful. See point 12 for more about more easy selective adjusting through brushing masks, which is now not ideal i think.
6. The grid is pretty useless to correct vertical lines (i use a Midi controller turn button for things like this, which is very nice). Please give an option for a grid with more lines.
7. Adding rulers by dragging would be so much easier than menus/ key combinations/ left mouse actions for every extra ruler.
8. Cropping (grabbing those edges and moving it) is really difficult in C1 12, but i believe this is taken care of nowadays. I will find out later this year with the new update..
9. Maybe i miss something here, but is there an option to have your lens still corrected (!) but without cropping the hell out of the wide end of the lens? Now i have to manually "uncrop" every time all the 16, 17 and 18mm for my 16-35 and 24mm for my 24-105mm lens (huge crop there).
11. Maybe a CPU problem, but often brushing a second part (brush and then move to another part and click again on another part of the image) in a layer aren't picked up the first time trying. Therefor i have to check the mask, which i don't want to cover te image.
12. An important one i think: some kind of preview of a mask being applied to a layer and seeing it's status (largely filled or not) be very helpful Also to help with the problem above. Now i have to turn on and off mask all to time to to get an idea of it; is something happening or is it not picking up? Is my brush opacity low? Is the mask opposite from what i think? And of course it simply helps recognizing immediately the layers and if it's selective or an adjustment on the total image. Just like there are symbols for luminosity mask active. Or maybe even better; a separate little window tab with the masking shown would help giving info about the layer and mask wether you are just clicking though the different layers or brush in the image without hiding it under a color (which is useful in many situations btw).
13. More advanced but very useful. The option to change the opacity of the opposite part of the mask would be very nice to make a combination of a partly general adjustment and maximum effect selective. Better explanation: this adds the effect to the un-painted part.
14. Copy layer option to give it extra effect if it's opacity is already 100% or just play around with it without losing the original one. Maybe the changes in C1 21 are good enough for me to duplicate things though (also a solution 13 with a little extra work).
15. Folder option in layer tab. Advanced, and i realize many i mention are the strength of Photoshop, but these are the essential ones for ease of work; combination of edits in one folder and make it less extreme with a opacity slider or mask instead of adjusting every single one. Especially because it's not possible to add another version of the file as a layer.
16. A short key to open with Photoshop! I managed to create an "edit with" key, but "open with" doesn't work. Not even in the system preferences. Left mouse key every time (especially because this is an extra key with Mac) and finding the right action in the list, or dragging the files on the PSD icon is really annoying. Or open by clicking on them (files with a certain extention) would be even better.
17. Option to AUTO turn on exposure warning when dragging the black or white point in levels or curve. Or showing exposure warning by holding a key instead of turning it on and off all the time.
18. A decent retouching option. This is the main reason i can't do without Photoshop. The spot remove tool is not it.
Most things i mention here are about work speed and ease. Concentration on the creative and easy judging the changes instead of difficult key combinations with two hands, menu's etc. Also control; always seeing the status of things (a mask being there or not, the level of opacity of a brush i'm working with the moment i activate it, what adjustments are used in a specific layer) is very important imo.
Please make Capture One even more user friendly. :)
Thanks.

Did i write too much (if so, please just look at the bold text; i tried to highlight the subjects that way), or is this just a dead forum?
I hoped for at least a Capture One reaction.

On your number 18: the spot removal tool still exists for backwards compatibility, but the newer Heal brush tool is a much better way of doing that work now. (First included in Capture One 20 release 13.1, so not in the version 12 you say you are still using.)
Also in response to your comment I hoped for at least a Capture One reaction, remember that this is primarily a user-to-user forum. Quite often suggestions in this Feature Requests section do result in a response from Capture One staff, but with such a long list, it is likely that you may not see a swift response.

Point 17.
There is a Keyboard shortcut to activate/deactivate exposure warnings. You can redefine it if you do not like the default as offered.
Is a double click, rather than a push and hold key, really too much of a problem that you would wish to have 2 methods available to satisfy the needs of the wider user audience?
Or, for many, the ability to leave it on all the time and control the sensitivity to suit your requirements. Something that already exists.
In general I think you are over complicating things and at risk of making more work for yourself than you really need to.
My preference would be to have a development engine that did the work for me rather than force me to make so many adjustments. I can find other applications that would take down that path without really see better results.
In fact a have an application that offers much of what you request and I totally preferred that to Lightroom back the time before I discovered Capture One.
To me the benefit of Capture One at the time was not that it had more features and functions. It did not and still does not today in terms of processing options.
The simple reason I opted to pay more money for C1 than I had to pay for my previously favoured application was that any image opened in C1 back then (Version 5) before further editing looked better than I was achieving in the other application with quite a lot of additional work.
In my opinion there is nothing to be gained by having to work harder or deploy more tools and adjustments unless someone is paying for the work at a high rate of revenue. If that is the case the next stop would probably be Photoshop, most likely paying someone else to perform the necessary edits.

@Ian Wilson: thanks. I will probably get the next update. Hopefully this new tool will work better.
Normally i do retouche in psd using repair tool. First 100% for pimples etc. and then a 40-60% layer to get rid of reflections or bags under eyes without making them plastic.
@SFA:
I know the short key (E). But activating and deactivating it IS too much work indeed. Really.
Two actions; one before and one after the adjustment.. not smart. Both the possibility of hold key (like in PSD with ALT) or auto when moving those points would be a way more clever way.
Keeping it on is too distracting for me (and i guess for many).
But, that said, it's one of the lesser important things i mentioned and i can live with it.
The lack of a "switch on/off last action" button though is really difficult to work with. Especially because there are no uncheck boxes. The ALT + click un the tiny undo arrow (and hold it!).. come on.. That's no comfortable way of quick checking what's better before / after.
And also the mask icons / previews would be very helpful.
I don't understand what points you mean with too much work. Most things i mention require less buttons (checking) because you already see at advance (is there a selective mask?, brush opacity, short key to open in Photoshop, short key to change opacity instead of left mouse key any time) all this things are real timesavers!
Unless you don't want to use the layers at all.. Or auto correct everything. That not my idea of editing.
I have 2 workflows. One with Photoshop at the end (for retouch and Nik filters) and one totally in C1 with some layers i can easily create form styles (for shadows, highlights, skin, clarity, structure). Things i want to use selective sometimes.
