Import very slow

Have 183 raw images from a Sony 6500 copied over to a flash drive in Mac OS Mojave. Set up import to new catalog. C1 ver 21 says 4 hours!, this drops to one hour. Is this normal?  I have checked my processes Ap and have still 20 GB of free memory and the processes graph is way down, not stressed.

    Is ignore duplicates turned on? That can slow things down.

    In that case, you could try turning it off. There are other ways of avoiding importing duplicates - my favoured one is to use the Search facility in the top right of the Import dialog box. Click the ... and get this ...

    As shown, you can select to import images from a date or a range of dates, among other criteria. It's much less processor intensive, so a lot faster.
