CO not seeing camera
We've been using Capture One for Nikon for a year for tethered shooting and raw editing. Until recently, it worked seamlessly. About a month ago, our technician opened the software and it reported there was no camera connected, although the camera was tethered and powered on as usual. Here are the facts:
- Nikon D810
- Nikon AC Power Supply Connector
- Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro VC USD lens
- 5 meter tethering cable
- UGreen USB C to 4-port USB3 adapter
- Dell XPS 15 laptop, Windows 10 Pro
Again, although your site specifies a maximum tether cable length of 3 meters, this setup worked without a hitch for one year. The connection failure began to happen regularly. The technician has been able to reconnect camera to software by trying a number of workarounds, including closing and restarting the software, cycling power on the laptop, checking the cable connections, even switching cameras (to a Nikon 800). The glitch has become more persistent, though, which is costing us time on a grant-funded project. Yesterday, I upgraded to CO 21; now the software won't see either camera and the workarounds...don't work. She's also noticed that it's harder to use the camera's autofocus through the software; sometimes it won't focus at all. How can we eliminate these problems? Thanks very much.

Matt,
This is primarily a User to User forum and whether the other visitors will have any personal experiences of a similar nature with a similar setup is, possibly, questionable.
There are many potential variables in play.
My recommendation would be to use the "Submit a request" feature to register an official Support Case with C1.
Also to search the Community pages (if you have not already done so) for any similar tethering related issues irres[ective of the camera involved.
I would certainly test to see whether having a memory card in the camera makes any difference. Historically it was necessary in most case to ensure there was NO card in the camera in order to prevent the computer attaching to the camera as a mass storage device before C1 could try to attach as a tether device.
In addition the length of the cable is somewhat related to consistent power levles to maintain connection but computer USB ports, especially USB3, can be very critical in that respect and even minor changes in regular voltage can cause connection problems.
Then there can be changes to software both at the application and camera firmware levels that, if changes have been applied, might mean that things work differently - including not at all.
For a test try a session shooting with a different, shorter cable to see if the problems still exist.
Doing so may not solve your operational problems but could point to a direction to be investigated.
There are also some log files that may provide records of problems encountered during tethering connections which might also offer some useful guidance in some cases.
I hope someone with similar experiences will visit the thread but in any case, contact the Support Team as suggested above.

Thanks very much for your insight. I'll investigate further and submit a ticket if necessary.
