It sounds like Capture One remembers the session, but the volume that contains it isn't connected to the computer, so you get an error.

    More info would be helpful:

    1. When did "poof gone" happen? For example, before you shut the computer, were you able to reopen the session?

    2. Are you absolutely sure you've got the right drive connected? Capture One's "Open" dialog shows the last several catalogs/sessions opened and gives their pathnames under the item name. Also, since you seem to have multiple external drives, does each have a unique name? (obvious question, but some people I know forget to rename volumes after they're initialized, so end up with several same-name volumes)

    3. Have you tried searching in Finder for the session name? Or did you look under the Apple menu's "Recent Items" listing and if the session shows up there, did you try to open it from there?

    1. did not shut the computer down. Just left my desk and it went to sleep.

2.I do have the right drive connected.

    3. Yes, tried the search. recent items. It only comes up when the wrong drive is connected and then I get the message volume cannot be loaded because its not on that drive. Not sure this makes sense but something very odd has happened.

Have you tried rebooting the machine without any external peripherals connected and then connecting the external drive?

Seems like you've tried pretty much everything. Some other ideas:

    1. Have you tried repairing the external drive with Disk Utility or another app? Same for your boot drive. Something "fixable" might have gotten broken.

    2. Do you have access to another Mac that you could try the drive on?

    3. Do you have any recovery software, like SanDisk Rescue Pro or ProSoft Data Rescue? I've had excellent results recovering image files with both of them. Data Rescue is very good on hard drives and Rescue Pro works really well on cards and hard disks. I haven't tried either on SSD, though.

    4. File a Support Request. Capture One may have some other ideas.

Trey going to the View menu and de-selecting the View menu choice.

This same thing happened to me last week and this fixed it.

Tom's comment reminded me of something else. I've been assuming a Mac/Finder problem, but it could be something much simpler. Did you have any Search/Find criteria set when trying to view your items? If so, and none of the images matched the criteria, then C1 won't display anything.

Example: if you had told C1 to find "keyword contains" and hadn't entered keywords for any image, then C1 would find no images. Clearing the criteria would reveal all images in the session.

Let us know if either Tom's or my suggestion solves your problem.

Nothing worked and I ran out of time. I had to deliver the job so I hired the model again on my dime and reshot it. Thank You ALL for your suggestions.

Kristina, I did a quick text-search in this thread to find the word "backup". No entries found. I didn't want to put more pressure on your already stressful situation but to myself I have the rule "no backup, no pity". The first thing I do after importing pictures is running a proven backup strategy. After that I can work on my pictures. If "there's no time for this", you rather sooner than later pay the price. Things can go wrong and occasionally they will. Then it's too late TO SCREAM IN CAPITALS as this will usually bring back nothing.
