Color flags setting not retained in smart album

    John,

That sounds very odd. Are you, by any chance, using Synchronisation of sidecar files?

Is the Original image you are referencing internally flagged as "Green"?

If it is C1 would not change that setting in the original source file, only in the edit record held in memory for as long as the edit session is "live".

In any event, this is a bit of a strange one to think through without having a replica problem to experiment with.

Side car file syncronization is not on.  Yes I flag the original files as green... the rule set in the smart album is set to "transfer the image into the album" if the flag is green.  Would I have to define the filter for the smart album each time I started Capture One?

    John

After posting this and thinking about it this was an incorrect question.  Of course the filter for the album will still be in place.

The better question would be, all of my edits (exposure, highlites, etc), are reflected in the main images, then why isn't the color flag change considered an edit and not reflected in the main images?  Each time I restart Capture One I have to go through and set the flag to none on the ones I do not want to see in the smart album.  My thinking is, I create the smart album, edit the images in it, cull a few more by setting the flag to none then use the smart album to export that batch.  This done over several editing sessions.  As it stands now, I have to leave Capture One open until all 300 images are processed and exported.

    Is this correct?

    John,

The colour tags for each variant of an image as independent and saved in an edit instructions "file".

If you change a colour tag the edit record for that variant edit of the master should be changed permanently in the edit instruction file.

One thing that is potentially true of Colour Tags and Star ratings (and some other metadata) that would not be the case with other edited changes is that original file (RAW or JPG. etc,) might have a colour tag value embedded in it from the camera or some other application.

When C1 is closed and then re-opened the core data from the "original" file will be re-read into memory and may be deemed to override everything else at that point.  However, that sort of effect would usually be related to Sidecar file (XMP) synchronisation of some sort.

The only other thing I can think of is that you are being presented with your change whilst all of the data is in memory BUT somehow the changes are never being written back into the edits for later recall. This would be unusual as one expects them to be more or less instantly updated.

I'm not sure what to suggest next. What you describe is not a problem I have previously seen.
