Location tool does not work - Very slow and not informative work
Instead of the standard progress bar, we have this...
How to understand how long the process is going on and how much time is left until the end ?
How to cancel a process ? The program interface does not respond to user input. What competitors (LR) do in a matter of minutes is done here for hours
Creating a directory with full preview generation is many times faster than trying to make a change of location
If there are 10, 20, 100 photos in a folder, then it is not so moronic and seems to work. But when there are 1k photos or more in a folder and there are several such folders, the tool becomes completely inoperative.

I would like to give you a nice solution to this...
But, I cannot; apologies. I have been a user of C1 since v11, and it has always suffered with its database utilisation. The problem you have described is just one of the many database failings. Just today, after a very simple reorganising of my disk drive storage, moving two lots of 40,000 images grouped into yearly subfolders into a single new top level folder, I then went to the Locate menu option, and yes, after 4 hours, it is not even half-way done.
While it is doing the 're-locating', one is unable to use the C1 interface, not even minimise the window, and yep, as you have found, there is no way to pause or stop the process. One can use the system (in my case Windows 10) to halt the application, but this risks corruption of the database. In my case, as I have experienced this before, the best thing to do is just leave it until it is finished.
Using any other system with a database, for example Lightroom, a database operation such as this, which should in theory just be adjusting a pointer in the database to where each original image is stored, takes less than a minute, perhaps two, for 80K of images, but alas, this rather obscure database sluggishness needs lots of patience.
I have written to PhaseOne many times about C1 database issues, and in all the versions since v11, they have never been addressed. It is a shame. For my approach, C1 is the best overall software, so if we want to have those features, it is a case at the moment of living with the seemingly poor database utilisation, sometimes bazaar behaviour, and consequential wait-times.
Good luck with your work.
