    Chances are that you killed (pulled the rug under) Capture One while it had the catalog database open and locked.

    The nature of the lock may depend on your system (Mac or Windows), but it should be possible to remove the lock, but there is a risk of data loss. In worst case you may have to revert back to your backup. You should be able to find threads discussing the issue, here is a link to get you started:
