Changes in color/curve when importing Fujifilm GFX 50R Files

Capture One uses the preview image generated by the camera in the import window.  That image is also used post import -- until Capture One can generate its own preview and thumbnail.  You are seeing the difference between the preview generated by the camera vs Capture One.

The camera built preview may be influenced by camera styles.   Example, on one of my cameras I select "monochrome" so the EVF shows in monochrome.  I prefer that.   When importing into Capture One I'll see that monochrome image until Capture One processes the raw file and generates its full color thumbnail and preview.

If you don't like the way Capture One is rendering the image you can modify the Base Characteristics top suit your taste then click on the three dots in the Base Characteristics menu to save your adjustments as the default for that camera.   If you need/want more changes than that you can create a style that you apply upon import.

Hi Marco, thanks for your response.

I had changed the Base Characteristics the match the Style I was using in Camera, but it still looks much different than the RAW file I started with.

This only started happening when I switched from version 20 to version 21, did they drastically change the way C1v21 generates previews?

I don't know if it changed.  Also, I don't own a Fuji camera and don't have a clue as to how well Capture One emulates the Fuji styles.

Also:  "RAW file I started with" should be "the JPEG preview image created by the camera".  The raw image has to be processed by something before it looks much like the image you took.   See https://petapixel.com/2019/07/15/what-does-an-unprocessed-raw-file-look-like/ for the difference.

CaptureOne can't really "interpret" some in-camera settings like Highlight oder Shadow, Contrast etc - it can only "read" the film simulation you selected.
So when the image is imported, the buit-in JPEG preview (generated by the camera) is displayed but then Capture One renders the image again - and then it looks very different.
