21-22
I bought 21 in July 2021.
What is my upgrade path?

Not sure I follow? V22 has been given a development announcement but that's it, if your on a subscription model then you will get any new version in that 12 month period. If you bought a perpetual license, then any upgrade path will depend on the upgrade path detailed when 22 is available. If you purchased during the offer that includes 22 then you will get v22.

First , I did not know what a "development announcement" is. I thought it meant 22 would be released soon.
Second. Since I bought 21 in July then I am not a "New" customer and the promo does not apply as it specifies a September start date.
Just not looking forward to paying twice within a year or less.

Judging by past practice, if you chose to pay for an upgrade from 21 to 22, you would not pay as much as a new customer would pay for 22. Of course, you are under no obligation to upgrade at all. 21 will keep working as long as you have a computer that it will run on.

As Ian said, you don't have to upgrade. In past years Capture One has offered a discount to existing users. They may even offer a greater discount to those willing to buy before the new version is released. Only Capture One knows if they will do something like that again.
If using the most up to date version is very important to you the subscription model might be best. If you don't like subscriptions (and many don't, including me) you take your chances that Capture One will offer something that you are willing to pay.

AJ,
If you log in to your C1 personal account and see the Welcome page you should also see a link further down the screen for "Upgrade License".
Click on that to see the options currently offered.
Whether there will be any variations to those offers between now and the release of the next version only the C1 Sales and Marketing team are likely to know.
If you have signed up for emailed communications you may receive a personalized promotion mail with special offers or other information from time to time.
