This is worse than I thought. C1 placed the imported files in a completely unrelated session on another drive!

Maybe an obvious thing: are you sure you haven't inadvertently retained your previous import selections? Whenever I've caught import errors, they've invariably been my own mistakes in making the import selections in the first place, or else in accidentally designating an incorrect import destination.

You might try deselecting all images when the Import window comes up, and then checking those that you want to import.

Also, in case you haven't already discovered it, Capture One doesn't support all Mac selection methods. So whereas in most Mac apps you can select everything in a range and then add everything in another range, Capture One can select a range and then requires you to check each additional image you want to add or look at. Cumbersome for us, and Capture One has been aware of this for at least several major releases, so I don't expect that they'll address it any time soon.

Have you eventually configured Backup in the import dialog?
