CaptureOne 21 Sony RAW image vs. Imaging Edge Viewer

Just had a look at a Sony RAW in Imaging Edge (IE)
and indeed first up the IE image was much more saturated.

However I went into IE's Tools - Settings - Color Management - Default Display Space
and changed the default "Camera Color Space" to the other options there (clicking apply each time)
and the screen reverted to a less saturated image very similar to C1's.
Even going back to the default Camera Color Space did not reintroduce
the extra saturation, so don't really know what happened there.

Check that IE is not using any in-camera
Sony Creative Style that you might be using with your camera.
C1 will not recognize any of those.

If you have calibrated your screen check
that IE is actually using that calibrated ICC.
IE was using a generic ICC before I changed it on my system.

Also check that C1 is using the Sony ProStandard Base Characteristics ICC Profile rather than the Generic.

Thank you GB for the quick response.  I am certain I have not using any Creative Styles in the camera, those should only affect the jpeg's and not the raw files (I am saving both). Both my raw's and jpeg's look identical in IE Viewer.

I went into IE Settings - Color Management - Monitor Profile (and I only have two options there, sRGB or Other Monitor Profile that is blank.  I do not see a "Camera Color Space" (IE Viewer Ver 3.2.01.10170)

C1 ICC is set to Sony A1 ProStandard.

I have not calibrated my screen, not even sure how I would do that...

There is a setting in the Sony A1 camera under Image Quality called Color Space.  The options are sRGB or AdobeRGB, I have it set to sRGB.  Is that the best setting for C1?

    Thanks, Mike

"I am certain I am not using any Creative Styles in the camera, those should only affect the jpegs and not the raw files"

That's true for in-camera images but IE can add them to the RAW with it's Creative Style tool on the right, third from top.
For making a comparison to C1 make sure Standard is selected there so no extra enhancements are being added.
(Theoretically if you did take the same shot with both jpeg and RAW with say Sony's Vivid creative style enabled in-camera and also had IE's creative style tool set to "Camera Setting" then both jpeg and RAW would display in IE with that vivid style and look much the same in IE.)

"I went into IE Settings - Color Management - Monitor Profile (and I only have two options there, sRGB or Other Monitor Profile that is blank.

Click the Other Monitor Profile Change button and see if your monitor shows up in the list that pops up and select it if there.
If it's not there just cancel out of that and select the sRGB button.

Having checked the above are you still seeing big differences?

As they should. Styles impact the Raw file (as it appears in IE) in exactly the same way as the jpeg.

OK, I have confirmed that the Creative Style in the camera is set to "ST" or standard, which means no changes.  I see in the IE Editor that you can set the Creative Look.  I have it set to "Camera Setting", changing it to "ST" makes no difference, as I would expect, as that is my camera setting.  I have not been using the IE Editor at all, just the Viewer to review and rate my photos to pare down the ones I open with C1.  Regardless, with the IE Editor set to ST, the camera set to ST, both the IE Viewer and Editor pictures look the same, much more saturated oranges and reds compared to the C1 image.

When I open Settings - Color Management in the Editor I have more options than in the Viewer.  I can set the default color space for display to sRGB, AdobeRGB, Wide Gamut RGB or Camera setting, it is set to "Camera Setting" which I mentioned I have set to sRGB.  Changing this to sRGB from Camera Setting makes no difference in the colors in the Editor.

The monitor profile is set to sRGB, if I select the Other Monitor Profile I pull up four options: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (for an HP monitor), DCI-P3 or sRGB or Vivid (all for Microsoft monitors).  I am using a Microsoft Surface Studio 2 so it is a Microsoft monitor.  I tried all three of these MSFT settings.  Choosing MSFT sRGB made no difference compared to the standard sRGB setting.  Choosing MSFT DCI-P3 did wash out the colors a bit but the result still looks a lot different from the C1 images, I would say it is "bluer".  MSFT Vivid is less saturated but not a yellow as the C1 image, somewhere in between.

Are there color settings in C1 that I should check?

This would not be so problematic if I could find the right adjustments in C1 to replicate what I am seeing with the Sony IE Viewer as I just like the extra saturation for my sunrise picture.  I am a new C1 user, only about a month, so I have a lot to learn.  I am not having any issues with any of the wildlife or landscape pictures I have been taking.  I really like C1 so far!

    Thanks, Mike

Mike , sorry about the confusion, I just assumed you were using the IE Editor.

After looking at some sunset images I have to agree that out of the box IE is just giving a more saturated and more contrasty result with those images, and at this stage would have not much to do with color spaces.

Certainly C1 could match it, it's just a learning curve to figure out how.

Maybe try C1 Presets/Styles to start with.
I found the C1 built-in preset Contrast RGB gets close to IE with the image I used.
To get there: Adjustments Tab - Built-in Presets - Curve - Contrast RGB.

C1 sells extra presets but there expensive.
Maybe look for some free C1 presets out there on the web eg
    https://fixthephoto.com/capture-one-styles-free

Found this on Surface Studio color spaces:
    https://www.anandtech.com/show/11050/the-microsoft-surface-studio-review/5
Looks look they have a great screen.
Setting the Surface's screen to Vivid might be the choice if you want to see maximum screen colors.

    Thanks again GB!

I did pay for some of the presets at a discount when I bought the C1 software but I have not downloaded any free ones, duh! Thanks for that link! I will download those tonight and give them a try.  I bought the Studio specifically for the screen.  Thanks for that link to a detailed review.  The screen is huge, very bright, and highly rated, a pleasure on which to work with C1.

I will take this as a challenge to work with the C1 adjustments to move up the learning curve ;)

This forum is great, very helpful.  Thank you all and good luck with your photos!

    Best, Mike
