CaptureOne 22 upgrade?

    There has been a cycle for quite a few years now of new versions coming out in about November or December, which makes a time like August a less favourable time to buy. There is no obligation to upgrade to 22 now - you could wait, or not do it at all. (Though I agree that the features so far announced look very desirable.) Or you could go for a subscription rather than a purchase in which case you get all the new features without further payment until you subscription comes up for renewal.

    There has been a similar post to this in the past day or so.

    I do not have a subscription but I got the impression from the previous post that there was an offer available to save 20% on the subscription cost (per month or per annum?) if one re-signed for 12 months.

    Now this would be a puzzling option for anyone paying annually UNLESS their subscription was abotu to renew for another year.

    If paying monthly presumably there might be an option to accept the new fee and have it applied immediately.

    Or might it simply be an option for existing subscribers to change from monthly to annual billing and make the saving?

    If this does relate to subscriptions and is something like I have described above one can only assume that the wording of the communication does not readily interpret across different languages or is unclear about scope and intent.

    If it is in fact something related to perpetual licenses then I am puzzled by the original post above. But I agree with Iain's comments should that be the case.

    Four years ago, I was at the same place, just bought the software back than in July. I did not upgrade until 12 months later during a promotion. This is the first year a pre-purchased the software since I found a promo-code on Alpharumors for an additional 10%.

    I don't want the monthly subscription, in case I use the software less frequently and decide, I don't need the latest gadgets anymore. I am still using Word 2002 and I am happy with that.

    I've skipped 21 and got the upgrade from Version 20 to 22 (perpetual).

    This seems to be a worthy upgrade (for once).

    However it seems a bit strange that the key will only be valid for 20 and 22 but not 21.

    No, I did not pay for version 21 but everything suggested that I could use 21 in the meantime until 22 is released. It even directed me directly to a download page to "download the latest version of captureone".

    It's not like they're going to lose any money by giving the users who already pe-paid for v22 access to v21.

    @FirstName

    This is a user to user forum, if you want to pass a message to C1 you need to do this via this link

    Well, I too have to say, that I'm extremly astonished that the pre-upgrade with a 28% reduction is more expensive that my original buy!
    How could this be??!!

    How do you mean?

    For me, with V20 => V22 it was 167.00€.

    That's worth it after two years imo.

    I paid for V20 100CHF and the upgrade after 1.5 years is now 123CHF.
    Of course it isn't a fortune but shouldn't an upgrade be less expensive as
    the original price? This way I can buy every other year a complete new program, which it isn't.

    Ah the good old times. I bought my first AutoCAD full version for $49.99. Today it is $220.00 and that is per month. Since I never upgraded it, I only can assume that the 2020 version has a few more features.

    Compared with the prices for the hardware you need to run C1 the software licenses are a bargain... :-)

    @Claudia Mathys: That's nearly what I say
    @C-M-B : After 2 Years this would be worth a discussion... but after 3 month??
    @Roland Ruesch: The new features ... ok. But they too are necessary for C1 to stay in business. Know what I mean?
    @BeO: I run it on a mature i7 which I bought used for 50€ and refurbished it, as I often do. Even good for environment *g. I'm well on budget and C1 works ok on this. ;-))

    After all, I judge it as some kind of "subscription through the backdoor". I changed to C1 because I didnt want this kind of subscription-model... but last but not least: Get out the calculator an see what the other App (I would never mention this name here - fingers crossed) gets on subscription for a year(!) ... Expensive 3 month they were on C1 :-(

    Plenty of totally Free software out there if you want something really inexpensive.

    Some of them have maintenance from time to time.

    If only there were free cameras and lenses too ...

    Hey, the old socialistic ideas? Very old school ;-) .... I think were still in market economy and pleased to pay for a product what its worth ... if its worth..

    Claudia,

    Are you saying you paid 100CHF for a full perpetual license for V20 or an upgrade from V12 to V20?

    If it was a full first purchase of a license you paid a lot less than the then suggested recommended retail price.

    Whether we think the RRP is reasonable is a different debate.

    Updates, for many applications but certainly not all, tend to be around 50% of a full new license price. Or, in these days of developers favouring subscriptions, about the same as an annual subscription.

    Anything different would provoke a lot of discussion - perhaps even more than what we have seen here for the past 5 or 6 years.

    @Roland Ruesch

    I have had exactly the same experience with some business oriented data manipulation software as you have had with AutoCAD.

    In its early days about 25 years ago the price per boxed (with disks and manual) license was about £400 but a trial was £40 and a "Consultancy" partner could get "Not for commercial use" licenses for the same price.

    The prices started to creep up but we moved on to free copies as official partners.

    Then they moved to Subscription only. And the price started to creep up, starting at around £2000 per annum a decade ago.

    After some management buyouts, the entire license model has changed to be flexible across a much wider range of software products, few of which would be of business interest to us. The basic "come aboard" payment starts at around £2500 p.a. I think.  Our level of business interest these days is not so high as to justify the investment and the nature of our consultancy does not fit with their business model, or so it seems.

    The world moves on.

    At least with C1 I can choose whether I wish to upgrade or not (most years) and I still have the perpetual license option (for now).

    With the price of energy soaring and the price seemingly increasing at about 100% per annum at the moment the cost of a C1 upgrade is the least of my concerns. By not upgrading I can pay for another month of electricity. Would that be a good exchange?

    We need some perspective here.

    @SFA
    It was for the full Sony Version. Not an upgrade.

    I'm no thinking about whether to update or not and I was surprised that the upgrade is more expensive as the original price.

    I don't say, that the price is extraordinary, I only want to say that I expected, that the upgrade will cost less than the original price - because I only want to upgrade and don't want to re-buy the whole product again.
