Opening older sessions in C1 21

    From memory current Processing Engine and general Settings compatibility goes back to version 8 but I suspect Version10 might be nearer to certainty in that area.

    From the release notes for revision 14.1.1.

    Capture One 21 is compatible with the earlier 7.x, 8.x, 9.x, 10.x, 11.x, 12.x versions. It is recommended to migrate images from 4.x, 5.x., and 6.x to version 8.x before opening them in 21. 

     

     

    Ideally you would take very old session files and update them using earlier versions as stepping stones to get to V21.

    However, if they are old enough some significant changes will become evident and one might end up questioning the benefit of bringing forward old edits from a much older version of the system when compared with simply re-editing any original images that are now of interest once again.

    That is what I'd do.  I'd remove any Capture One generated files in finder and then visit the folders in Capture One to view as if new and re-edit if necessary.   I'll tell myself this is a good thing because my editing skills are better now compared to the past.  It is a convenient way to rationalize the fact that I may have to re-do work that was once complete.

    Go to the Downloads page for the current product.

    There you should see also a link for "Previous versions"  - you may need to scroll down the page to see it.

    Click that link and then scroll down again.

    For one can go back to V10. I cannot comment on Mac options but you may also need to consider the OS level. 

    Check the Release Notes for the older versions for both comments on Older C1 version support  AND Mac OS levels supported.

    At some point (I cannot recall exactly which version) the license process changed and new, current licenses have to be used for older versions. FOr much older versions you may need to find your original license in order to activate the program but since going back a long way might also mean that computer have been changed there could be other matters that might hamper the ability to activate older versions.

    I note that C1 have been identifying the probably need to update sessions and catalogues in order to retain future compatibility for some time.

    You probably tried to open the .cosessiondb file and then C1 crashed.

    What if you create a new session with v21 and just browse to the old session folders?
