XMP Sidecar and JPEG

To my knowledge you cannot. C1 never alters "input" files, which is usually raw but also tiff, jpg etc.

C1 will write metadata into the output files, so imported jpgs when exported, C1 will write a new file (I know that is not advisable with jpgs) and embed the metadata, if you specify this in the export recipe.

How can I get CO1 to write the metadata of an existing JPEG into this file and not into an extra XMP sidecar

To reiterate what BeO said:  you can't.

The Capture One philosophy is original files -- raw, jpeg, tiff, dng, whatever -- are never updated.  They can be read but never written.

Edit: Pavel and I were responding at the same time.  I guess you can export over the input file.  Would anyone actually do that?

thank you for your answers, that clarifies a lot.

It was just noticeable that with the update to 14.4.1 CO1 automatically creates an XMP sidecar for every JPEG. This was not the case before. (Auto sync is set to Full). I can avoid this if I leave Auto Sync XMP sidecar option on Load.

    Hi Thomas,

It happens exactly because it is set to Full Sync. I will recommend you to set it to None and do it manually when needed, as you probably will not need to have that full sync activity going on in the background constantly. if you need to write your CO metadata to XMP files for external use (choose Sync on right click on thumbnail(s)) or load if you would like to retrieve the metadata added to the XMP files from another application.
