Color Shifts in Studio
Hey there. I’ve been freelancing regularly for a studio and have noticed a common issue on multiple sets.
I’m photographing clothing, then have to do basic color matching. Items that are red/pink have too much yellow, needing a strong hue shift to remove. Things that are teal/aqua don’t have enough yellow and need a strong shift to add yellow. The shifts in either direction are consistent enough that I can copy adjustments from one image to another.
I would think that if there was an overall issue with the studio set up, the yellow shifts would be consistently one way or the other, or the shifts would not be able to be adequately fixed by copy/paste settings from previous images.
The setup has been consistent from before I started. Custom white balance on the camera, set a neutral midtone on color card and specific white point. The fact that yellow shifts depending on the color shot has me a bit confused. Where should we look to fix this?
On a side note, although I’m working regularly as a freelance, they overtly chose to higher cheaper options as contract employees (I was really close to getting a contract offer when they decided to not higher staff in the studio, then a few months later did just that). How morally obligated am I to try to fix this issue? My OCD is making it super annoying, but feel that if I fix this, I feel I’m rewarding their choice to higher younger/cheaper people and they still get the benefit of my experience.
Cheers
