    > Frank Dekker: trying to move a layer to a different position

Why/how do you think layer order/position makes a difference?

When following Paul Reifer instructions to create a dust remover style for use of other images, You create two layers, 1. "dust remover layer", and 2. dust finder layer". You can save the dust finder layer as a style for other images. He specifically mentioned that you have to make sure that the "dust remover" layer is below the "Dust finder layer". You should be able in general to move the layers around in the layer stack(according to the manual), and they even show how to do it. In my case, it does not work trying to move the layers around.

You should be able to drag them up and down the list (but the Background layer is always at the bottom of the stack).

Yes, I did not want try to drag it below the Background layer.

Even with several layers above the Background layer, I am unable to move any layer above the Background layer to any other position. In the manual, they demonstrate it by dragging it up or down, a blue line appears where the new position will be. In my case, nothing shows, and unable to move layers above the Background layer to another spot.

    Frank,

How many layers do you have for the image?

    I have five layers.

Their user guide even states the following:

Layers are not linked in the stack, so you can freely move them up or down to organize them. Simply click and drag it up or down the stack to reposition.

    5 should be fine.

I am not seeing any problems but I would observe that the layer you trying to move and the position to which you are trying to move it must be visible as you drag the layer.

If the full stack of layers is not visible you will only be able to drag within the area that IS visible. The "Background" layer is always at the bottom of the stack.

If it is clear that all should be well but nothing is working I would suggest closing C1 then re-open to see if the behavior changes. If not, try closing C1 and rebooting the system.

If that does not work and if you cannot change the positions of layers on other images you may need to report the problem to Capture One Support to see if they have any further suggestions.

Rebooted computer, still unable to reposition layer.

    Will contact their support.

    Frank,

It may also be worth running the Verification utility on your Catalog or Session.

I'm not sure it will do anything for this particular problem which seems technical whereas the verification is likely mostly checking that file management links exist, but it is worth trying.

Using a Session the Layers (but not their mask data) are defined in the edit settings file associated with each image file. The order of the display is controlled by the position of the block of settings instructions within that file. It's quite a simple thing.

In a Catalog the concept is likely the same but the settings will be held in the database rather than as a separate readable file.

Can you still add and delete layers to and from the file in question?

Are all images showing the same problem or just the one you are working with?

Thanks for your time and suggestions helping me to resolve my issue.

It is not a critical to my work.

The problem is not only for one particular image, I have used other images, with the same issue. I am working with a session.

I have sent it to technical support, and hope that they come up with a solution.

    Thanks,

    F
