Seeking Tool or Technique for Blurring Selected Area of an Image

I saw and read the "Blur Masking Area" post on this topic for Capture One v10.

TASK - I am cleaning up images of automobile and want to know is there a straight-forward way to blur the license plate number. I would prefer to do most if not all of the work in Capture One v21.

    There isn't such a feature in Capture One. I would do that kind of thing in a pixel editor such as Affinity Photo, or Photoshop.

    You could try the Clarity tool.

    Set clarity and structure to minimum.

    You might need to add layers to get enough blur though.

    Maybe reduce contrast to minimum as well.

    Sound Advice.

    While I do own Adobe products, I am trying to ween myself from the warm all-nourishing teat of Adobe Inc.

     

    Failing to do so would simply reaffirm the corporate hegemonic “imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society.”   As clearly stated in Monty Python’s The Holy Grail.

    My tentative solution is based on one of your (Ian) older posts and from another contributor(gb).

     

    [Unrefined (tentative) Solution]

    Note – This takes more effort than doing it in another product, but it’s reasonable for using one tool.  I consider myself at the Novice-Level in regards to Capture One.1) Create “New Filled Adjustment Layer”

    • Create “New Filled Adjustment Layer”
    • Apply an “Erase Mask” to the new layer.

    Note – I took the novice route on my first image, but will apply an “Invert Mask” on additional images.

    • Apply “Clarity” settings. Values: Method=Punch”. Clarity=(variable), Structure=(variable)
    • Adjust “Exposure” settings.

    Doing so was enough to remove the license plate number while leaving the rest of the image untouched.

    There’s room for improvement, but I have a working solution now.
