Catalogues and Collections
Hi! I've attempted to answer the following question by reading the Help but I'm confused...
I organise my images in Catalogues that correspond in title to image folders on my HD. The HD folders and catalogues are both titled with reverse dates (i.e. 211126). I find this system useful for locating and ordering folders chronologically.
The issue is: any one catalogue may then contain sets of images relating to different projects... I would like to organise those sets into individual project collections or folders... so is it possible to retain the original catalogue yet copy images across to individual project collections or folders?

Yes. One of the strengths of the Capture One catalog system is that you can keep images where they physically reside but also add them to virtual collections such as albums, smart albums of projects. So for example you might have image in your 211126 folder that include both family photos and photos of a football match. You can create a football album and a family album and add photos to the appropriate one. This takes up no extra disk space - it isn't creating extra copies of the image files, just cataloguing them in the appropriate category. Also if you had a family member who was taking part in the football match, you could perfectly well add images of them to both albums.
I would have thought that there is little need to have a new catalog for every date. There is some advantage in having a catalog that includes all images from 2021 for instance and then you can have family (or football) images from different dates all in the same album.
