Can we see the Focusing distance information inside C1 ?
I need to know the distance from the lens to the focus point or focusing distance. I know my camera does it, with another EXIF software I won't name here I see the metadata information for the focusing distance.
I've spend fews hours looking into all the menu, scrolling everywhere inside C1 and I cannot find the information ? It's counter productive to use another software when you have C1 that does everything but not this.
This info is important to get real life measurement of a photographed object, once you have the sensor size, the pixels size, with focusing distance this tell you the real size.
So this way you can know exactly how large the wings of a butterfly is in real life, and lots of important informations you need in science and natural photography projects.

I don't know of any way to do this in C1. I know that of my Canon cameras, only the R5 records distance data and then only for RF lenses as far as I know. You could submit a request to add this in future versions of C1.

Well, that's kinda strange since the data is 'there' in my RAW files (.nef), so why can't we see it with C1 ?
I do agree we need this as new feature if not present in C1....

Nope, that is one of the many useful (and often asked for) features that C1P is not implementing.
Even Apple's Aperture had it, back in the times ... but Not C1.

@Sebastien - where (and how) do you find this information for your .NEF files? I remember being interested in this a year or two back and I thought what I had discovered was that it was not easy (if possible at all) to extract this information. And also I seem to remember that it was suggested that when distance information was extracted from images it was often not accurate. So if it is possible to get in by any means, I would be interested too find out how.

Indeed I found how to solve it !
So since C1 can't show you this data, I used a cheap 5$ EXIF software. Here a screen shot between the two softwares. https://www.dropbox.com/s/z4cm63tutvjpapv/distance%20focus.png?dl=0The distance to focus is THERE!!!
I also did the math to know real life size at an average 95 to 99% accurate, this is pretty easy but only if you got your sensor data, your lens specs and the distance to focus, then number of pixel from any shot can be converted to mm, inch or cm.From what I have tested, the informations of the distance to subject is available with some lens only. I own a 85mm tilt shift Nikon lens, this one got it. I tested with Tamron (cheaper one) and I don't have this data ! So maybe that's why some peoples say it exist and some don't believe it !
The information is store in some 'auxiliary' exif data, something the .NEF has but C1 totally ignore it!! I don't know why C1 can't do what a 5$ software does ?
Fun fact I contacted Nikon to ask if a .NEF have this data and they tell me it was not existing ! So again not everybody is aware of this informations since it does exist in some lens but that's a very advanced information fews peoples does understand or know how to find.

I think this might be visible data for some manufacturers and not others, maybe some camera body and lens combinations and not others.
I recall seeing some data in, if I recall correctly, Flickr uploads where people were using original OOC jpgs with Exif data left in the upload. At the time it seemed like some data of interest but without knowing exactly how it was measured and without any consistency of use across manufacturers (or availability in even a single photos storage and presentation system) I decided it was not as interesting as it at first appeared to be.
Your specific example of how you might use it makes obvious sense. Most people would probably think of it as a facility that they "have to pay for" but do not need.

To my opinion, this feature is important for peoples who do natural collection photography such as museum or image bank for historical records, where you exemple want the real life size of a bug or a butterfly wings.
I know this is not for everybody.
My point is because It so simple when you have the lens info, the camera model with this focus distance it's quite ridiculous how simple and easy.... but it would make sense to have it right inside C1 so when it output your raw to jpeg, tif, etc..so the data is right inside every files.
I could create a plugin for free that allow this math 'real life measurement' to be done from the 'script' (applescript) menu of C1 still I cannot do it since this 'aux EXIF' is not showing....Just saying here that C1 is so amazing and I love it, and it's such a PRO software that I was expecting to see any EXIF you can ever need. It would make sense to have this info, since museum are using it with phase one camera.
