CO1 v22 continuously opens folders with random multiple images selected and shown in the viewer
I have tested the new CO1v22 since the first beta, and have multiple times over the last 5 weeks reported an incredibly annoying bug where, when browsing through folders in a catalogue, CO1 opens the folders at random and continuously with a string of arbitrary images selected. I spend a lot of time deselecting the images and selecting one image, but as soon as I close CO1, or close the catalogue to open another, the whole carnaval starts again.
It also happens with sessions.
This is with a newly created catalogue/session or an older catalogue/session, makes no difference, and has started from day 1 of the first CO1v22 beta. It's almost comical how I got no response to multiple bug reports right up to the end of the beta period, and it is the last time I tested a beta for CO1, since it is an utter waste of time.
With that of my chest, I of course wonder if any more users will run into this issue.

I suspect it is an isolated issue, which might be related to your setup. I have three suggestions for you.
1. Restart your computer. Assuming it is Windows 10, do not shutdown, but restart.
2. If that does not help, remove any input device like a digitizer tablet, if there are any apart from the obvious mouse.
3. Create another user account and try with that account.

Thanks for your comment.
I may have not brought across well enough that it is within the CO1 v22 handling of session and catalogue files that the issue lies. It started the minute I installed the CO1 v22 beta and I have been using the latest four versions of CO1 and never ran into this issue. If I switch back to v21 all problems are gone instantaneously.
This has all to do with the catalogue handling on the Windows platform that is supposed to bring a large performance boost. No doubt it will, if only Phase One were more willing to iron out the bugs.
Restarting, unplugging, new user account is all of no avail. As soon as I create a new catalogue in CO1v22, start adding image folders, start browsing, at one point the bug will hit on certain image folders when loading, and once the loading of multiple selects starts, it does not go away anymore and accumulates, Verify catalogue will finish succesfully, but the affected folders will continue to load with a string of images selected.
I am sure this is a bug that only hits certain configurations, but when v21 and below work flawless on my system, and v22 is an utter mess, than CO1 has work to do. Véry sloppy of them to ignore my beta testing input from day one to the present day.
I have a modern reasonably powerfull computer based on Ryzen 3700 with 32GB of RAM btw.
EDIT: just tried to use the catalogues on my second intel computer, exactly the same issues.

I'm experiencing the same. When selecting different Albums (or recent import entries) it usually remembers the last selection you had made in that album. With version 22, now it often randomly selects several photo's from the album even when you had selected only one last time you had it open. Can be 2, 3 or a whole bunch.
I thought perhaps there's a relation to the default location Capture one stores it's catalogue DB / previews/ adjustments:
The "pictures" folder which is part of the OneDrive folders. OneDrive was showing a load of sync issues with all the files Capture one continuously creates/updates.Since OneDrive storage is limited and I don't need to cloud-safe all those previews/thumbnails C1 generates in the 'cache' folder, I tried moving the catalogue to a different location.
Alas, the result is the same:
Upon startup of C1 when selecting different albums seemingly random selections of images are selected. The changes you make appear to be remembered in-memory as long as C1 is running. Upon a new launch, the selections are acting weird again.Perhaps something's wrong with writing away the selection to file?
I notice the "Capture One Catalog\Cache\Browser" contains no new files newer than 8th of december...1 -
Thanks for confirming this issue, you are apparently experiencing exactly what I experience with v22.
I actually felt Paul's comment was a bit disconcerting, in the sense that if the Phase One programmers also reason in that way on forehand: that it is probably an isolated issue, then it get's really hard to even get their attention, and fixing bugs like these will take a very long time. If they had used even one of my three elaborate posts on this issue, then this would not have made it into the final release. Instead they ignored it 100%, did not even bother to get back to me once.
I hope there will be more like you that experience the image loading bug, and report it to Phase One. I have my catalogue on the C: disk, so I am sure it is not related to OneDrive. I have my raw image folders on a very fast usb C external SSD, but it also happens with sessions where all the images are stored on the C: drive.
I have been testing the beta for five weeks and it happened from day 1 with both sessions and catalogues and in all configurations.
EDIT: another user started a thread on this topic who is affected as well. Please report this as a bug to increase the chance that the developers will fix it.

I can recreate the issue repeatedly by simply closing and opening C1. The browser cache seems uninvolved btw; I made a back up of the cache files to some other drive and cleared the cache, but the behaviour remains. (And no new browser cache files were generated. No longer used in v22 or perhaps relocated)
It's not a major issue. Still annoying. Will make a bug report today to at least help confirm this is not an isolated case.

Thanks for reporting this.
It is not a major issue I agree, but get's annoying when you browse through a lot of folders and the selected image strings start growing. Also, I tried starting out with new catalogues, but once it starts, it does not stop anymore, but progressively gets worse0 -
I've sent a 'request' with the bug report including screenshots, logs, the works.
"
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open an album, either self defined or a 'recent imports' entry
2. A seemingly random selection of photo's is already selected
3. Make a selection of 1 photo
4. Close C1
5. Reopen C1
6. Look surprised when you see the same random set of photos is selected againBonus:
in step 3 make a selection of 2 or more photos.
in step 6 you will see the 'random' selection has now grown to include these photos as well.Steps taken in attempt to solve:
- Reboot PC, no change
- Relocate the Catalogue from 'C:\...\OneDrive\Pictures' to a separate SSD drive to prevent OneDrive sync issues, no change
"The issue seems to start/grow whenever you select more than 1 image. So if you make a selection of 2, these are now added to the group of images that will be selected on next startup.

Thanks for reporting this issue, and for your detailed description.
One remark: I thought at first that the selection of images shown/selected after re-visiting a folder or re-starting CO1 was random, but I believe that the string of selected images is actually made up of the images that you last visited/viewed/worked on before switching to another folder/catalogue/session or shutting down CO1.
It appears to "remember" which images you visited (selected) and instead of selecting only the last image when re-visiting a folder or re-starting CO1, it selects the last 2-3-4-5-6 images you last visited/selected when browsing through the images of that folder.
So it opens CO1 with a short history of selected images that you viewed/worked on. But of course this is unwanted behavior.
Well, now with three known support cases on this topic, the chances that they respond to at least one of us are growing..... they must have been facing a tsunami of very serious bug-reports to not be able to respond for almost 6 weeks now.....

The above issue has been fixed in the latest 22.1 release.
Eventually, support got back to me and asked for a video and CO1 logs, and acknowledged this issue as a bug.
Kudos to support fixing this issue.
