Missing layers
Hi,
some weeks ago I noticed, that the layers of hundreds of pictures are lost. Maybe because there was an update, maybe because I deleted elder backups?? I do not know.
In the layer menu the layers are displayed, they have the correct names, but there seems not to be any content. So whether I acitvate or deactivate them, nothing does happen.
In my backup of the catalogue I found an elder backup version. There the layer are still present. But what to do now. In the meanwhile I worked on in my catalogue.
Is there a possibility to combine the catalogues or to import the old catalogue from the backup to the active catalogue?
Does anyone know this problem, did I make a mistake in deleting old backups?
I hope for help. The support does not answer since weeks...

OK, I saw, that in my active catalogue the layers of all the pictures before this year are missing/destroyed.
I marked the folder "2021" in my active catalogue, then exported this selection as a new catalogue which I named "2021".
Then I opened the backup from beginning of this year, where I found all layers working. And here I imported the new made catalogue "2021". And this backup becomes my active catalogue. I hope I have all together again.
But what happened, I still do not know.

I have the exact same problem (on Windows 11). Last good backup is from October.
Looks like copying the .comask file from the good backup works.
I'm super disappointed not being able to trust C1 with my data. You have "verify" & "backup" functions that could easily check for those errors: it looks like the "bad" .comask are 0 bytes.

I think this can happen when you move the catalog file in the Finder to another location where there is already another catalog. There may then be conflicts in the adjustments folder.
But this is just a guess, I don't know for sure.Looks like copying the .comask file from the good backup works.
But this you have do make for any picture I guess. And it is very laborious to find the correct places ind the co filesystem.

There was a bug in Capture One 20 that prevented masks from being saved correctly.
You may have encountered the results of this bug if these are old images.
Unfortunately, there is no way to get the masks back, however the bug has been completely fixed in the latest build of Capture One 20 and you should no longer face similar issues with new images.
Capture One Support.Wow, so "such things can happen with our software" -> better do not trust Capture One...
(yes, those were old images - hundreds of old images - and: old means more than half a year old images, maybe this is too old for C1)
...and care for backups ever!
No good feeling! And no real help by showing up a solution using undamaged backups and importing single catalogues as I described before.
Dear C1 team, this is extremly dissapointing!Best Tim
