need ideas for catalogs
I just started using Capture1 22 and need ideas on the best way to use catalogs.
1. Am I better off using one big massive catalog and store all my yearly photos in one big catalog or would I be better off cataloging each year separate?
2. If I use separate catalogs would key words search all catalogs or just the open catalog?
3. Is there any way to get my photos in a grid in the main box or do I have to work with them in preview to key word them?

Chester, welcome to Capture One!
1. I use a single catalog, which currently is approaching 60k images. However what you do depends on how you want to work. I know a lot of people prefer using a catalog for each year (for example). I chose one catalog because I want the convenience of having everything in one place, and AFAIK Capture One can't search multiple catalogs simultaneously. Also, some people prefer sessions over catalogs. I'd suggest that you consider how you want to work with Capture One and go from there.
2. For search, Capture One searches in the active catalog even when multiple catalogs are open (it can open several catalogs, each in its own window, if you set the appropriate preference. You can have the same keywords in all catalogs (just export keywords from one file and import them into all of your other catalogs).
3. Look at the online User Guide, section 3.4 for viewing options. You can set the Browser to show several views including the kind of grid I think you're looking for.

Note that you can download a well bookmarked PDF version as well, which is what I've done.
