    Doug,

Have you been able to repair the catalog with the File>verify function in C1?

    Thanks,
    BeO

I attempted to but the verification failed. The only alternative was to rebuild from backup or restore from time machine. I restored from time machine because the time machine copy was only 30-minutes old and it had the highest probability of success.

So, because I had good backups, I only lost 30-minutes of work and was offline for 1-hour to copy the 256GByte file from time machine. It could have been a whole lot worse. Still, very disconcerting.

    Best,

    Doug

Good to hear you've had a recent backup.

During the years I have had one or the other issue with the catalog too, nothing which couldn't be repaired by either verification or manual adding folders back, or fiddling with "orphaned" thumbnail (but I spent many hours in all those years,

     - and your incident reminds me that I should do my backups more frequently -

    Thanks for the warning.

I like the session concept for its approach to have all adjustments in a .cos file for each image as a "natural decentralization/distribution" of the risk in case a file errors out (instead of one catalog file for all images), but I don't want to be without catalog functionality and would like to see C1 writing .cos files optionally, similar what it does with xmp files, or even better into a session folder structure as a kind of natural sync between sessions and catalogs. Will never see this probably...

    Cheers

I tried sessions initially, but I need the holistic view of my photos that catalogs provide. The current method of importing sessions into the catalog is nice, but insufficient since it is one-way. I like the sync approach for all the reasons you mentioned. Agreed, it is unlike we will ever see it, but it would be a clear differentiator for CaptureOne.

I have got used to use Capture One ONLY for Sessions, during actual photoshoots, and keep a decent catalog of everything else in LightRoom.

The C1 Catalog is weak and needs more functionality and stability to be seriously considered.

Also, It is a good suggestion to hold on for version 22 since most of the updates are almost cosmetic, stiching images, HDR, etc, etc and there are multiple options in the market to do those those operations.

One last comment here in regards to Sessions: Phase One has always shifted the discussions about C1 not allowing to save the files to both the CF/SD cards in camera AND the computer while shooting tethered, something LightRoom has done since day 1. They keep arguing (with very weak arguments) about this and, if and when you are shooting very important work, it is very wise to have the double backup instantly in your system. C1 only offers the workaround of using one external hard drive for that, ( never to the Camera cards) but that slows down the entire operation.

During delicate work, if the computer/laptop crashes or collapses, as it has happened, you may loose everything. It is obvious to-date that they do not intend to do anything about it, since this request has at least 8 years old.I rather shoot tethered in LightRoom, preselects the best images to process, move them to another folder, import that folder into Capture One and process there. Safer!!

    Happy Holidays!
