Saving edits to xmp file (or cos file also in catalog)
Hi,
Sometimes I'm losing edits of files. The big help for me ( and probably a lot of photographers) would be to have the edits as a real sidecar xmp file with the pictures themself. So really hoping that this feature will come to capture one.
"So by accident I deleted my .cocatalogdb file ( also deleted the trashcan in windows)
I had a backup from several weeks ago. I copied the .cocatalogdb file to the place where I normally store my catalog.
I opened the catalog and added a few folders that where imported by capture one within the weeks between backup and the day I deleted the .cocatalogdb file
Now the thing is, in some previews I see the pictures that I edited. Also in the adjusmentsfolder I see several comasks, cop, cof files that belong to pictures. But the edits won't show up. Only starratings.
So is there a way that I can link the adjusments folder back to the pictures?"
Kind Regards,
Aaron

The adjustments are in the catalog only, so they are gone. If you are using sessions, the adjustments are in the .cos files.
I strongly support your request to (optionally) store the adjustments in .cos files even for the catalog images, other software does this (e.g. darktable).
Ideally one could have a catalog of session images with the option to store the adjustments in both, the catalog and the .cos files.

As an early alternative how about the options to disable deletes (Turn the option back on when you are ready to use it and have prepared accordingly) and/or enforce periodic backups with the potential to make that activity high frequency?
Every hour comes to mind (I believe the Mac Time Machine program allows that or even more frequency?) but basically whatever people wish to use.
Meanwhile, if the re-instated catalogue has some Preview files in place that would suggest that it is the same as having a disk drive with the "original" source files on it but currently off-line.
Or with the files moved without that information reaching C1 - i.e. the move has occurred outside C1.
You could try to re-locate the files in C1 using the function provided for that purpose.
However, if your file changing that seems to have led to the accidental catalogue deletion was undertaken outside C1 AND may have involved things like renaming files as well I'm not really sure how successful the Locate approach might be. All I can suggest is to try it.

I approve the request and obviously I would also add the opposite import the adjustment from the XMP (Let's see it as a sort of additional Bck). I don't know if activating the EIP files can be the same thing0
