Archiving Catalogs

You can copy the catalog file, .cocatalogdb, which contains all edits except the masks, and also copy the three folders Adjustments, Cache and Originals,

and copy the image folders if you have referenced the images instead of copying them into the catalog (the latter means copy into folder Originals).

Note that the catalog usually contains absolute paths to the image folders, e.g. C:\.., not relative. Which means when you open the archive catalog, if this absolute path does not exist, the images go "offline" and you have to "locate" the folders (which will correct the paths in the catalog) to make them online again.

    Stefan,

Catalogues without Images are often relatively small files (or sets of files) and might be even smaller if the preview files and thumbnails can be discarded (on the basis that they can be recreated if required and have no purpose unless opened by Capture One - in which case they can be recreated.)

Catalogues with managed images (i.e. embedded original files) can be very large of course. But if the number of files and the size of the files is not greatly excessive for your needs and therefore the size would be acceptable (you are going to have to store the originals anyway ...) it might be simpler to make the originals all "managed files" and so create an option to copy the whole catalogue as one "item". The might be a good approach for a long term Archive need.
