Capture One 22 for Nikon

I am having wave too much trouble with USB wired tethering using my D500. I am using good quality cables (one from Tether Tools) and the MacBook Pro is not seeing the D500 at all. I had one sporadic session where it seemed to work, but never since. I have switched cables, switch ports (USB 3.0), have looked up configuration settings, etc. It just shouldn't be this hard. I downloaded freeware (digiCamControl) to me PC and it works no fuss no muss. I paid a fair bit of cash for this software and it should be better than this. Any suggestions besides trying a powered USB hub? (that I don't need for Sofortbuild, BTW)
