Allow editing metadata on Video files.

    @EtMRS,

Capture One doesn't modify any files, obviously. It stores the metadata in it's catalog database and/or in sidecar files.

Video files can be treated exactly the same as RAW image files - where the files are never modified and all the information is saved in the database and/or XMP sidecar files.

As I said above, it's already capable of reading XMP sidecar files for Videos and displaying that information.  Also, if you set a copyright and description when importing a video files Capture One will already write that data to both the database and XMP files.

The only thing keeping it from allowing you to edit most metadata/keywords data is some filename limitation.  Which is pretty silly.

CaptureOne doesn't save this data to my RAW image files either.  It saves it in the database and XMP files.

I don't see how this is relevant to my request.  I need to store data about video files in my catalog so that I can search and find them in the catalog by keywords and other basic descriptions.  The catalog database and XMP files already support this.  Capture One need only unlock editing/adding keywords and data to these files and it would be very helpful for me and I'm sure others.

I don't really understand your motivation to suggest not having this ability.  It certainly doesn't hurt anything and only makes life for those of us that also import video files with their photos into Capture Onea bit better.  If Capture One is going to allow importing video (and it does) then it should also allow us to set keywords/metadata on them so we can search and organize them.

I would find this extremely useful as I currently import everything into Capture One. I know that the C1 database can do this if enabled because all my imported LR librarys contained metadata for the video files. This data appears in the metadata for the video files but becomes locked in C1

The structure of the database can be seen by anybody.  It's a SQLite file and you can open it up using SQLite and stare at the structure all you want. It's a pretty simple layout.

But, what James is saying - is that Capture One imports metadata on videos just fine from other apps already.  So, clearly, it's capable of storing that data in the database since it can already do that today.  We just also want to be able to edit those values from within Capture One using the panels that already exist for editing that data but are simply greyed out on video files.

@James Dawson   - Only option is to use a 3rd party tool that can edit XMP files for the videos and enable Full Sync (or manually sync) to get Capture One to pull that into it's own database.  I

@EtMRS - Thanks for your input.

This is just a feature request and it's up to C1 to decide it's value.  All I and others can do is share rather it would be a benefit to them or not.  This back and forth over it's merits or technical oddities probably doesn't benefit any of us.

Clearly, it isn't something valuable within your workflow, why you so strongly oppose it is a bit confusing to me but that's your choice.

This would be immensely helpful for me and the many other photographers that are doing a mix of video and photos now.  I suspect that'll become more and more popular since all the fancy new cameras also make amazing videos.

When I go to my kids soccer games I grab a mix of both photos and videos and I naturally want to store them both together and be able to search for them both in the same way.  That would be very helpful to me, a paying C1 customer.

Others may have other use cases and some may not need it at all - but I sure don't see how adding this would have a negative impact on anyone's workflow.

I don't tend to include video files in my Capture One catalog, but I would welcome the ability to add metadata to other non-editable items that I do have in there, such as images smaller than the size limit.

@Ian - yeah that's a good point.  There's not really any reason to limit the catalog's metadata to any specific file types.  Especially small image files, that seems like an odd limitation.  Another example might be annotation audio files.  Many new cameras let you record a voice annotation along with a photo and being able to set keywords and descriptions on those files would be handy too.

Is there a reason the vote counter was 0 before my upvote? Hard to believe there were as many downvoters as there might have been upvoters for this request.
