It would help to know the operating system, as these problems are almost certainly nothing to do with Capture One.

Have you checked/corrected the permissions for the folders in question?

    Hi

Do you mean when I view the Info Log - in which case, yes, it says I have read and write permission?

    Thanks.

    Hi Keith

I also checked C1 Preferences-Images - permissions are all ticked.

Any other ideas of what to do?

Not a Mac user, but C1 v11 is officially not supported on your OS

    https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002406498-Which-version-of-Capture-One-will-work-on-my-Apple-operating-system-

so maybe there was a MacOS change causing this error. As you are thinking about an upgrade anyway (assuming you mean C1, not MacOS) you could download the latest trial version of C1 and see if it works then, and also see if the new version is valuable for you.

I was turning permissions on and off, manually importing images - trying anything - and suddenly I am able to import to my new external hard drive. But I don't know what I did to make this happen - and I cannot replicate it on the back up hard drive, so that one is still not working.

I didn't realise I could trial the new version before purchasing. I will try that. Many thanks for replying to my questions. I appreciate it.

Interesting that C1 11 is not supported on my system - I have been using it on both this and an older computer since C1 11 came out. Maybe this is why I run into these problems though.

    Thanks

    Sharon

    You're welcome.

Always try before you buy :-)

If you haven't looked at prices since v11 then hold your breath. But a few good things have been added in recent years.

I have seen the price - hence wanting to ensure C1 all works fine before upgrading! I will keep fiddling around to see if I can get my second external HD working..

    Thanks again for the support.

This is probably late for Sharon, but for others on this thread.  I had the problem after restoring from my backup following a hard drive crash, that C1Pro 22 wouldn't save my changes and gave me the "You don't have permission..." error message.  I did have permission, but the permissions were a bit garbled.  In my sharing preferences folder, there were multiple instances of my username.  There was one username that was an unknown user.  There was a staff group that I didn't use, but it had some access, and there were multiple everyone entries with different settings.  I deleted them all except for one instance of my username and the everyone entry.  I then applied those permissions to the document and picture directory structure and flowed it down to all files.  Once that was done, everything works perfectly.

    ..................

    Reason: You don’t have permission.

Recovery: To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info.

    Domain: NSCocoaErrorDomain

    Code: 513
