I have tried both on and off but didn't make a difference. In photoshop I had it turned on. Rendering intent was set to perceptual.

with perceptual it makes no difference, c1 uses a different color management engine and maybe it interacts different with your profile as there are no rules for this rendering intent.  have you tried relative with bpc on too ?

I have tried relative with bps just now but it makes no difference. I have wasted a lot paper trying to figure this out with no succes so far.

    Hans,

Are you using Proofing in Capture One?

If you compare the final images for printing in both C1 and PS side by side on the same screen, do they look equally light/dark?

I don't use Proofing. On screen the image is the same in C1, PS and LR. That is what makes it so weird, the image looks good everywhere it just prints significantly darker in C1 compared to PS and LR. I guess I can stick to PS or LR for printing but it would be nice if I can stay in C1 so I don't have to export and open the files in PS or import into LR for printing.

I very much appreciate the help btw :)

sometimes reseting the print system solves strange issues but no guarantee this works in your case as it could be a bug too.  also what color profile do you use to display the images in c1 and what profiles are you using for printing, custom or manufacturer profiles ?

I use argb for editing and I have tried both icc from manufacturer as one I made myself using Datacolor SpyderPrint. Resetting my print system does not make much sense since I don’t have any problems using PS.

I can verify this problem. It exists since version 20 on my mac. I think there is something wrong with CaptureOne. That is the reason why I print with Qimage One on my Epson SureColor P600.
Best results I got when I use the Paper ICC profile at Export from CaptureOne and print it with Qimage One.
I am interested in a solution that works with CaptureOne too.

Thank you Peter for suggesting Qimage One. It sounds very interesting and I will give it a try. Coincidentally I am printing with an Epson too. I have an Epson SureColor P800 and my OS is macOS Big Sur.

canon has a nice and very useful printing app professinal print & layout would be suprised if epson does not have something similar.

but even it does not sound logic I would reset the printing system and reinstall the driver I also would try the cups driver if available for your printer.

At some point in time, printing was working from CaptureOne. Perhaps it was before 20? Not sure, but I can tell you that 22 print *way* too dark. I even reset the monitor calibration to 80cd and re-edited the image so that it was a bit overly bright. It had a very minimal impact on the printed result. It was indeed brighter, but more like "very dim" rather than "too dim".

And printing from LR worked just fine on the very first print. There is something broken in C1's printing. Is there a way to file a bug? Given that this problem is clearly at least 7 months old, and I have gotten a number of updates, it doesn't seem to be on the mainline schedule...

I really don't want to have to bounce out of C1 to print. It badly distorts my work flow. And wasted a lot of paper. ;)

Mac M1 Mini. Epson P600. ARGB for editing.

I've noticed this, too.  But it's not just a matter of being too dark.  It looks like something is messing up the colour curves when printing from C1.

Here's a scanned sample of printing a well-known colour test picture three ways: plain old Widows Print, PhotoShop Elements, and C1.  All three were printed with the exact same paper, same printer settings.  The Windows Print and PSE look fine and identical to my eyes.  The C1 is awful.  Dark, yes, but the colour curves are clearly out to lunch -- compare the colour curve bars on the lower right of each test.  Check the skin tones the strawberries, etc.  And yes, I did tell C1 the printing was managed by printer.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but there's something very funky happening in C1 specific to with printing, and the prints look nothing like that.  Not even close.  There's no way this has anything to do with monitor calibration.  Besides, even if it did, why does only C1 do this.  I'm going to see if I can figure out where the documentation describes how to manage printing in C1, and whether it helps.

A quick update on this.  I sort of have an interim solution: do NOT use printer managed colour.  Set your printer to ICM and Off (no colour management), then pick an appropriate colour profile in C1.

Ignore the "Paper" setting, it is the size set in the printer settings, and mostly gibberish.  "Japan2LPhoto", for example, is 5x7.   Not documented of course.

Epson has a document for the Stylus Photo 1400 (which I have) entitled Managing Color -- Printing with Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0.  Its settings recommendations seem to work for C1, and are far more helpful that C1's docs.  It lists the profiles for various paper types, which is helpful.

I don't yet know why C1 seems broken for Printer Managed color.

C1 documentation sucks.  It appears to all have been written by "Lily" in 2019 as quickly as possible, and never revisited.  And the support sucks too.  And they don't even appear to read their own docs.

    Hope this helps!
