Catalog move files

Hello,

For a past few imports C1 suddenly went from "Leave files where they are" to the setting of "Copy files inside Catalog". I didn't notice and now I got a bunch of files all doubled up and taking up loads of space.

Is there any way I can move the files (with adjustments!) from inside the catalog to an outside external folder, like all my other projects? 

I'm getting really frustrated this happens every time after an update or even at random it seems.

  Yes. Move the images using the library tool in C1.

  First you need to make the external target folder visible in C1 library tool, either right click on the parent adn "add folder", or import any dummy image into the target folder. Then, move the images by drag&drop from inside catalog to the target folder.

  I'll be, that actually works, thanks very much! I might need to reconsider changing the workflow and just use Catalogs as they are intended, but I'm a bit of stubborn IT guy.

  The idea behind using a folder on my system is that I can dynamically assign an output folder based on the location of the RAW files. If the RAW files are in the Catalog that doesn't work and I have to manually change the Output folder every time.

  Both ways are intended and have their place.

  If you are shooting projects which are independent from others and you want to "encapsulate" each of the projects in a small catalog, then having the images "In Catalog" might be a good idea. (But then, I actually would prefer sessions over catalogs).

  But if your catalog is meant to give you an overview of all your images, and you intend to grow it over the years, then one catalog referencing your images on the file system with a well-defined folder structure (so, images outside the catalog) is the better option, imo.

  Good things to consider. I am an amateur shooting different things. My folder structure is one of the most organised I've ever seen (e.g. <number> <date> <description>) so there is mostly no dependency between projects, but over the years the amount of data has vastly grown going from a 6mp DX sensor to a FF 32mp sensor.

  At the moment I create catalogs for each day and/or number of days (e.g. vacation). It may be prudent to drop all files in one big ass catalog, but I may loose all my edits that way, that is a bit of thing holding me back. Changing the workflow when you already have adapted a certain proces always feels a bit like taking a piss in a wetsuit (as a former instructor of mine said). At first it's feels very nice and warm, but after a certain amount of time has passed it's ... well, you get it.
