    Sorry, no hint.

Only posted to let you and others know I have a support ticket in on this.

I'm trying with a sony A1. It is recognized with sony software, just not co22.

    to avoid Keith's complaints

So you think it's OK just to march in here without doing even the slightest bit of "due diligence", and instead expect other people to do your thinking and work for you?

I make no apologies for having a problem with lazy, entitled people.

Does anyone has a hint for me?

Yeah. If you'd looked around a bit harder, you'd have realised that the standard advice is to download your images onto your computer first, THEN load them into Capture One.

The thing is that for most camera models, if they are connected by cable, Capture One treats it as an attempt to tether.

Thank you, "FirstName LastName" and "Ian Wilson" for you helpful replies! If it's the case, that CO assumes an attempt to tether only, it could be a nice thing to implement a choice in a version to come.

I don't use tethering myself, so I am no expert. But my understanding is that the reason files can be transferred directly with some cameras is something to do with being able to set options in some models of camera as to what mode it will connect in. But someone with more experience of it may be able to say more.

I just tried that. And it has nothing to do with CaptureOne tethering. When I connect my Nikon Z7 II, and i use explorer to see the camera, it is shown as a "portable device", not as a USB drive. Starting diskpart, or disk manager, pick your poison, the camera is not showing up as a harddrive, independently if CaptureOne is running or not.

Therefore, when any program that is written to take data from "volumes" ask the OS (windows): give me a list of drives, that won't work. Funnily enough, i can navigate in the "choose folder" to the Nikon and pick a subfolder (as explorer can do that), but that will not result in any photos getting transfered, as there is no drive letter assigned to the Nikon storage. And you can not assign a drive letter.

Using usbtreeview, you can see this for a Nikon:

where, for a SD card reader, e.g., the important difference is:

    Legacy BusType : PNPBus

    Class GUID : {36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000} (GUID_DEVCLASS_USB)

The crucial differce is "USBSTOR" vs "WUDFWpdMtp". The later is a windows portable device, and it is
by default not a harddisk and not treated as one.

    Dear Frank,

thank you for your very comprehensive answer! Since it does not seem to be possible to switch between different USB-behaviours within the Nikon settings, this issure remains unsolved until an improved FW.

According to the "Advanced Manual" of the Z6, Nikon seems to limit the direct import to Nikon's view-NXi software.
