Looking for portfolio workflow / file organisation advice

I'm not sure if I understood your workflow completely.
But from what I understood it seems more or less a similar approach.

Each project has a session folder.
RAW is kept in capture folder
Edited exports in the output folder

These get backed up to HDD.

For the central portfolio folder I would copy the best images (final edits in jpeg)
I would import these into C1 or maybe something else with (more) DAM capabilities.
From there it gets exported to 2 folders (Social Media / Website) that are accessible from anywhere.

Would something like Digikam be better suited than a C1 catalog or session for the portfolio folder?
The adjustments you talk about would not be a real issue I think. Since the files are already edited
    Or am I misunderstanding something?

    I tried Digikam.
It has a bit of a learning curve but I managed it.

Digikam is pretty good, but I found a few things that made me choose a C1 session for now.
Mainly not being easy to use on two computers, the same file / database.

I know a C1 session is not made for portfolio catalog.
But I don't want to import files every time, as I will forget this sometimes and it will become a mess.
I tried the hot folder thing in a catalog. But it had a failure on a few photo's. Not displaying any error, but just not showing up (seeing the amount of photo's in folder and in C1).

Still advice, tips and tricks are very welcome
