Deleting multiple folders in library

Is this a managed library or a referenced one? If referenced, I can think of 2 choices:

    1. In the Library panel, select all of those empty folders and send them to the Trash, then empty the Trash (first make sure there's nothing in the Trash that you want to keep).

    2. In C1, select an empty folder, right-click and "Show in Finder". Hopefully all of your empty folders are in the same higher-level folder. Then you can delete them in Finder, return to Capture One and Synchronize the master folder.

I think you can do something similar with managed catalogs, but I'm not sure.

Thank you Abbott for your response. I think it is a referenced library. The images are on my harddrive. I do not import the images into the library, just the previews.

I cannot select multiple folders. I have tried what you suggested but nothing works. I have to delete each folder manually. I can't believe it. Why are users not able to select multiple folders? I am new to C1 but think there is no other way.

Interesting because I did the same thing. First I moved a lightroom catalog which worked well, but then I realized I have 3 imports with a directory for each image. I am moving them manually to the directory above, but if I delete the empty image directory from my computer, then I get a caution icon in the library view, but I can find no way to remove all the 'caution' empty folders from the library tree.  I can only find a way to right-click each folder and delete them one by one.

I agree Dirk, there ought to be an eaiser way to manipulate the catalog files.

I just checked and you two are right: I tried Command- and Shift-clicking on multiple folders and couldn't select multiples. Looks like time to "Submit a Request".

    Maybe this will help you:

My photo containing drive is organized so all images are in a folder hierarchy contained within a single "Photo Original Files" folder (there are other folders on the volume, but they don't have any of my images). If you have an organization like this (or choose to create one), you could go into Finder, delete all of your empty folders, and then return to Capture One and Synchronize the top-level folder (in my case, "Photo Original Files").

I have opened a ticket for this behaviour. I simply want to have a catalog, because my images are on external harddrives and I want to see these images at least as preview in case the external harddrive is not mounted.

Abbot, I am curious, I did go delete my empty folders, but all I got was a caution symbol beside it in C1 22. I tried the synch on the parent directory, but the folders remainded.

Truth be told, I had probably 200 directories to remove (from having the imagename in the folder setup which is just a stupid newbe thing to do and which I have fixed), and C1 crashed a few times, probably from quickly right-clicking and hitting enter to delete things.

So, curious if you have gotten the synchronize to remove folders deleted through the operating system (Mac for me).

David, no I haven't tried it. I have a very simple on-disk structure: one master folder holds a lot of subject-specific subfolders, resulting in a structure like this:

    All Photos

         Subject 1

         Subject 2

         Subject 3

         etc.

And my Catalog structure corresponds exactly to this; no extra folders or anything. If I want/need additional organization, I use Collections, as well as keywords, descriptions, and other metadata. I thought very deliberately about what to name the folders, what keywords to use, etc., and I can find anything I want using metadata rather than folder contents. Hence no need to ever (so far) delete multiple folders.

From your experience, you've now learned something about how to work with Capture One, and hopefully you won't encounter this sort of problem again.

I couldn't believe that there is no option available in the best photo-editing/organizing-software for deleting multiple folders from a catalog or session in an easier way then removing folder by folder step by step.

    Hi Dirk Ziegler
Have you received a reply to your ticket?

Thank you for contacting us and apologies for the late reply.

I'm afraid there's not much you can do in this regard within Capture One. However, if this is a relatively new catalog, you can try creating a new one, do the right import and merge it with the one you work with.

You aren’t the first to inquire, however, and I’ve added your case to the note for R&D to consider future implementation.

Please keep in mind, that due to our policy we do not comment or give out any information on future products and development.

I have had the problem of deleting the many folders created when importing photos in the following way:
The folders created when importing images are all in a parent folder.
In explorer, I select the parent folder and search for images (.nef)
I move all these images into a temporary folder created for the purpose.
After that I delete the parent directory in C1 with all the empty directories.
(I now have all my pictures in the folder that was created for the purpose).
In C1, I then select Add Folder and import the temporary folder with all the images.
Then selects Add Folder and selects the parent folder which was only deleted from C1 and not from the system/explorer.
Now all the folders created by importing the images are gone.
Moves all the images that were originally in folders that were created when importing the images, but are now in the temporary folder created for the purpose and moves all the images to the parent folder.
Vupti there are 623 folders less and all pictures are now where they should be.
    Hope it makes sense.
