A friend of mine - not very computer literate - points out that when installing the latest version of Capture One 22, Microsoft.WebView2 was installed beforehand.
Does anyone know if this program is necessary?

    I've just been doing some research on this because I believe Webview2 may be the cause of a significant lag in performance when previewing Styles that has appeared since upgrading to 15.2.

    I think Microsoft Edge Webview2 Runtime is installed so that the Capture Pilot tool will work in Capture One.  Since Capture Pilot allows remote viewing of images through a web browser this seems to make sense.  However if this is causing performance problems then something must be done about it - QUICKLY.

    Thanks Brian,

    I stopped by my friend's house earlier and uninstalled Microsoft.WebView2 using an uninstaller software. At first glance, his Capture One still works perfectly.

    I suspect Capture Pilot may not work but that is probably not a big deal unless he wants to share images with clients using a web browser.  If he needs to he can reinstall Capture One and Webview will be reinstalled.

    Do you happen to know if your friend had any performance lag with this version of Capture One?

    I just looked up what Capture Pilot is. I'm sure he doesn't need this tool.
    He didn't mention anything about performance. However, he did point out that sometimes when he wanted to open a recorded "session" he had to do it twice.

    Thanks for this thread.  Is there a good (official) explanation for the installation of MS Webview2?  I don't use Capture Pilot, but I do use Sessions.  I'm trying to decide remove webview from my computer.

    I haven't been able to find any official explanation for installation of Webview2 with Capture One.  From what I have read about Webview2 online I am guessing that it is used for Capture Pilot - but I am only guessing.  I don't think it would have any effect on Sessions.

    If you do uninstall Webview2 and run into any problems all you have to do is reinstall Capture One.  I have done this about 4 times over the past few days trying to find out what is going on.  Now Capture One seems to behave normally.  I have no idea what I did to eliminate the slowdown but I have Webview2 installed with Capture One and things seem to be OK.

    I agree with Brian.
    When I installed the latest version on my friend's computer, Microsoft.WebView2 installed automatically.
    To uninstall this tool, I used an uninstaller and so far he has not complained.
    Brian's assumption is probably correct.

    Tried uninstalling Microsoft WebView2 after upgrading to Capture One 23 which kept bringing up an error for a missing file that actually existed when checking the file path. Reinstalling Microsoft WebView2 mysteriously fixed it on my end. Export is treating me a little better with Capture One 23.
