How to create a new layer for auto adjustment?

Hello everyone, I know how to create layer for masking or editing but I would like to ask how to create a new layer just for " auto adjustment "  ? 

I.e. sometimes I wanna just to see the effect after auto adjustment , but maybe later on I will be regret and after saving I cant see the original photo before auto adjustment.

  Auto adjust only works on the background layer. 

  If you want to do what you suggest, you could create a new variant to get back to the original image without adjustments.

  I see, thanks Ian, so it is right click on the photo on the right hand side " new variant " ?
