Getting Capture One 21 to recognize backed up images on an external drive?
Can anyone please help with something that is probably simple but is not working for me? I am using Windows 10 and I have referenced images in a Capture One 21 catalog that are on my main external HD. (Catalog is located on internal drive). These images are backed up on another external HD (SSD). I want Capture One to recognize the backed-up images when I connect this SSD HD. I have copied the catalog file, and Cache and Adjustments folders on my internal HD by dragging it to the backup external SSD HD from file explorer. Why doesn't Capture One recognize the files when I open the copied catalog on the SSD HD? They are showing as "Offline". Do I have to locate the images? If I do that and then later open the original catalog, am I going to have to locate the images again in the original catalog? There must be a simple way to do this. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Hi Carl,
in your case the catalog does not store any pictures but only references the pictures on the main external HD. Copying the catalog data to your external SSD does not change these references. Therefore, you have to re-locate the pictures to use catalog and pictures on your SSD.
Working then with this catalog is always using pictures on SSD, even if copied back to internal drive. I suppose you may run into trouble when using two catalogs with the same name originating from different drives with different reference, but you could re-name the catalog when re-locating the pictures to avoid this.
But because of the technique of referencing the pictures in your catalog you have always to re-locate when switching the source of the pictures.

Thank you very much DocM for taking the time to respond and giving a detailed explanation and for the great tip to rename the catalog for the back-up images.
