confirmed bug in 15.3 - "can't open the database due to an unknown error"
There is a bug in C1 15.3 that may cause an error when you try to open your catalog (applies to sessions too - I think) saying C1 can't open the database due to an unknown error. When this happens you cannot run C1 because it refuses to open the catalog/session.
C1 keeps log files at C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\CaptureOne\Logs. When this problem occurs, the application.log file will contain numerous errors saying
Failed loading style: Filename C:\Program Files\Capture One\Capture One 22\Presets60\Camera Focus\[some-preset-name].copreset [Exception: McXMLReadingException: Empty Style Tag "Empty Style Tag".
I reported this to C1 and they have confirmed that it is a bug in 15.3 and they will be releasing a fix for it soon.
In the meantime, this is the info and workaround they sent me:
"I have consulted our engineers and it appears that there is a bug in the latest update (15.3) that has been fixed for an upcoming update. We do apologise for the inconvenience. Luckily we have a workaround that will solve the issue – please do the following: 1. Make sure you are running Capture One on an admin user. 2. Rename your custom Crop Ratios. Navigate to C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Local\CaptureOne\Presets60\CropRatios\You need to enable hidden files and folders for finding this folder. It is important that the new name doesn't match any of our build-in ratios names (Square, 1x2, 1x3, 2x3, 3x4, 4x5, 5x7, 16x9). Or if it's easier for you, you can delete the Crop Ratio folder, but keep in mind that all of your custom ratios will be deleted. If you create new ones afterward, remember they must be named differently from our build-in ratios."
