Canon R7
I cannot believe I have to wait until Sept to view my R7 images. I am also guessing I will be required to upgrade to C22 as well.I think this is the last straw for me.
I have a two year old versions of Affinity photo and $50 3 year old PhotoScape X Pro that read them but I don't get why C21 cannot.
Adobe Lightroom also has support for the R7. As a pro I need to be able to read files from my Cameras so I have to go to Adobe so I can continue to service my clients.
It is frustrating, I left Adobe for C21, but C1 is just getting too expensive in cash, crashes and support.

Well, yeah...
How can you be a self-proclaimed "pro" and not know how this stuff works?
Specifically - which software company anywhere provides retrospective camera support for obsoleted versions of their software?
In fact I'll bet that the R7 will need Capture One 23. Welcome to the Real World.
Adobe has always been an outlier where camera support is concerned.
LightRoom has R7 support because - uniquely AFAIK - Adobe is generally provided with cameras by the manufacturers. They're the Big Dog in this fight, the camera companies benefit from keeping Adobe sweet.
FYI, DxO PhotoLab is nowhere near supporting the R7 yet either (not a major surprise, given that in many markets - like here in the UK - it's not even going to start shipping until mid-July, according to latest updates). Capture One - and DxO - have to source their own camera bodies.
In fact, DxO doesn't even support the Canon R5C yet.
Adobe is also just a much bigger affair than Capture One, so it has comparatively massive resources to throw at rapid development of camera support.
I have a two year old versions of Affinity photo and $50 3 year old PhotoScape X Pro that read them but I don't get why C21 cannot.
Because Affinity Pro does not profile each RAW file individually - it opens pretty much anything you throw at it. That's not good enough for everyone - the results are deeply mediocre - so it's not a like-for-like comparison.
Irfanview will open them too. Which is just as irrelevant.
As a pro I need to be able to read files from my Cameras so I have to go to Adobe so I can continue to service my clients.
What's stopping you from converting your R7 files to DNG and processing them in Capture One? Free at the point of use (thanks to the Evil Empire Adobe, and their DNG Converter), hardly any effort, and very effective.
I do wonder about supposed pro photographers who seem to be stymied by this kind of thing - a good pro always has contingencies and fall-back positions (like - oh, I don't know - not using a brand new camera on assignments until it's actually supported - or did all your other cameras burst into flames when you brought the R7 home?), so it's hard to have sympathy for what is by any reasonable definition, a self-inflicted non problem.

I guess you missed the part about my other 2 year old software that reads the files. When I tested the camera and input some files to my laptop which doesn't have C1 but does have an old version PhotoScape and it read them. I was mistaken to think my much newer "pro" version of C1 would as well.
Not only am I penalized for shooting Canon by having to buy the more expensive C! version that includes numerous manufacturer support, but I may have to purchase a new version just to get support for my camera?
New software versions usually have many upgrades and improvements that justify the upgrade from an older version. Supplying an updade for a few new cameras to last version software is not unreasonable considering the premium price to the product.
If C1 wants to compete with the "big dog" then they have to offer more value not less. I like C1 and that is why I tried it, but the industry standard is Adobe and at 9.99/mos Adobe offers Lightroom (desktop and ipad) and PhotoShop, its just much more value. I think iPad C! is yet another cost?
C1 is 240.00/ish every year for one program which is double Adobe that also includes Photo Shop, and speedy camera support. Why would I upgrade to C22 when they don't support my camera and pay twice the money a year for the privileged?
Camera support is not my problem, it is the folks at Capture Pro. Software and providing value for customers is their business, taking photos is mine. I just don't see the value.
I don't see value in upgrading to C22 now when support won't be available until Sept, and C23 will be out 3/mos later?
C1 either needs to support their software for longer, or drop the price of admission if they want to be one of the "big dogs"; that's just my own rookie opinion.
Again, I like C1, enjoyed using it, it is just a matter of value.

Amazing tutorial! This is exactly the type of post we like to see on the tutorials board!

In addition to being forced to buy the more expensive C! version, which comes with extensive manufacturer support, I may also be forced to buy a new version in order to obtain support for my camera.

Upgrades from an older version of software are typically justified by the numerous updates and enhancements in newer versions. Given the high cost of the device, providing an upgrade for a few new cameras to the most recent software is not unreasonable.
