CO & IPTC Location Fields: Distinguishing Between Camera & Subject Location
The screen capture below, from the Photo Mechanic IPTC Template, shows two sets of IPTC location fields. I'm finding that CO will show data entered in the first set of fields (Event and Location), but not the second (Locations Taken and Shown).
The first set fails to reflect the IPTC's relatively recent distinction between where the camera is and where the subject is. The second set makes it possible to record that the camera was in Brooklyn, but the subject of the image is the Manhattan skyline. It also has a field, "Location ID" for Location Identifier, that can be used to drill down, in a City like New York, to the neighbourhood level (yes, I know that this is a bit of a repurposing of that field). For some photographers, I imagine that the "World Region" field is also useful.
Is there a way to get CO to use the second set of data fields? If not, is there a reason why CO hasn't incorporated the IPTC's distinction between camera and subject location?
Thanks

Hi Ror,
unfortunately C1 use only a subset of the IPTC Fields. There is no way to change this. You have to use external tools like Photo Mechanic, EXIf Tool ...

I'm just surprised that Capture One doesn't appear to support the current IPTC Location Standard. CO's treatment of metadata has pushed me to consider replacing its search functionality with Photo Mechanic's Catalogue feature, introduced in 2020.
However, my preference is to stick with Capture One. Don't need to get into the reasons here, but I'd rather not expand my use of Photo Mechanic from culling and metadata input to making it my primary vehicle to categorise and find photographs.
