Such a shortcut would be nice as it could be used in a macro to automatically allow a layer name to be specified after creating a layer.

"Does your use of layers tend to need consistent naming for all or most images? Or is it more random?"

Some of the layers are consistent and some are random. Do you know any workaround?

I name Layers in the following manner:

    Sky G, Duck B Ce, Lady R L

where the first word describe the subject, the second the type of mask I have used (B Brush, G for gradual, R for Radial, etc...) and add a third indication when it may not be explicit enough, like I for Inverted mask, Ce for Color editor, L for Luma range, etc...

So I guess my use of names in layers is essentially random, which is why I'd love a shortcut there.

Don't know what would happen, though, as I seem to remember that the layer name field was automatically selected when a new layer was added, but the "feature" was removed in a later release, apparently after some complaint.

    Can't satisfy everybody, I guess!
