If you look at their website, there is a bit of information, but it's only a taster, not a full explanation.

Edited to add: anyone who is participating in the beta programme will be subject to an NDA and not able to give fuller information at this stage.

Above link shows some of the differing changes with the upcoming version release.  It does appear that most of these pertain to workflow and maybe not so much editing?  The "layers in styles" and "smart adjustments" do seem interesting and unique though.

Would you know how it would be possible to join the beta?

    Don't know - I've never done it.

Thanks for the answers to my question. Now Capture One has sent an email on the subject the meaning of the term is clear. It seems unfortunate that the 23 edition offers nothing new that is substantial for editing when other software is providing useful innovations, such as smart masking. Hopefully, they will add it soon but I wonder what the impact of coming late to the table will be on the market share of people like me who are not processing batches of photographs and don't need the live service. Indeed I wonder if many existing perpetual licence holders in this category will upgrade to 23.

It's up to you whether you want to update. I certainly plan to - I am not yet sure how much I will use "Smart Adjustments" but most of the other new features (apart from Reviewer Management in Live, as I don't use Live)  certainly do appeal.

And, of course, on past experience, I would expect there to be more new features during the life-cycle of 23.
