Printing on Fine Art paper with M1 with Canon Pro 1000 causing leading edge smearing

I print out of C1. This problem is not C1 per se but can save you a lot of paper and ink. After upgrading to M1 mac my Canon Pro 1000 printer started having ink smearing on the leading and trailing edges. The print head was hitting the side of heavyweight fine art papers. If this happens to you and you notice that the dialog box to print is a bit different call Canon service to get talked through a new install of your drivers. They acknowledge that The M1 operating system hobbles the driver so you can't print on fine art papers. Deleting old driver and reinstalling new version is the fix.
