Backups in cocatalog package

I have Capture One backups in the usual default location, all good. I also appear to have some backups in Pictures/Capture One Catalog.cocatalog which is a package containing Capture One.cocatalogdb and Capture One.cocatalogdb.backup, Capture One.cocatalogdb.backup 1, Capture One.cocatalogdb.backup 2 etc among other items.

How / why do I have backups in two locations?

Can I delete those in the Capture One Catalog.cocatalog package and just stick with the default loation backups?

FWIW I don't use sessions and store all my images outside of CO.
