Can't convert catalog to 23 from 22
Trapped in an endless loop (apparently) for the last 4 hours while catalog conversion tries to update metadata on visible images. In my case stuck on image 1 of 29 images.

Had your problem released ?
Would you restart your Capture One or your computer ?
I have a error when tried to export image from old catalog that converted to 23 .But Capture one suggested to close and restart it or restart computer.
Only restart Capture One , the problem was cleared.0 -
I have the same problem it's stuck trying to load metadata. I cannot get it to convert my C1 22 catalog for my images. I even tried the most recent backup and it still hangs.
How can I resolve this and get my catalog up?

Trying that now, but it still hangs with metadata...and it also says error in adjustment layer applying empty mask. It's loaded 37 images after 24 minutes with 1437 to go...but each time it stops after about 30 minutes and the app hangs.

Have been trying since my message yesterday to get the conversion of ver22 catalog to convert to Ver23. Have tried restored databases, copied databases, new databases, imported databases. Nothing works. I'm back to version 22 and I plan to stay there for now until a revision to the new CaptureOne 23 comes out cuz in its present form CaptureOne 23 is badly broken.

I have tried all the things you have as well but it will not work. When I check or verify the database it comes back and good but Version 23 has something wrong with it that it can't convert our databases.

to follow, same for me

I have an open support ticket as they have taken my database and have replicated the issue with it not loading and being stuck on loading metadata. They are trying to determine if it's a bug with version 23 and my ticket is on hold while they investigate the issue.

Randy, Same thing here. Haven't heard a word from them in 3 days so I've no idea if progress has been made.

Photophart, my last word from them was last Thursday even though I asked for an update last Friday.

Just got a reply from support, they still don't quite understand what I am trying to tell them. He thought I was able to sometimes use the database and then sometimes it would crash...that is not the case. I cannot use the database at all. When I try and open it ... it gets stuck trying to "autoloading metadata". Same thing happens with the backup. This database worked just fine in Capture One 22.

Have now been asked by support to try all sorts of things like exporting a ver22 database for import into ver 23, deactivating and reactivating, creating an empty database and importing a ver 22 database, etc. etc. Version 23 remains unusable. Things are looking grim for the home team.

Update
The only thing that has worked from supports suggestions is this...
For photophart If you have a good database (either original or from a backup) for version CO 22, open it and Export to Catalog from the All Images selection. The key here is make sure you have All Images selected from the catalog toolbar and not from your collections.
When you export uncheck the option to include images.
Then that exported catalog will open in CO 23. The downside is you will lose all your collections. I rebuilt my collections using the keywords that were loaded with the exported catalog file.
For SFA I have changed my metadata sync to all the different settings, and nothing makes a difference.
No doubt there is a bug in CO23 as all my previous databases work without any issues in CO22 but none (from the past four years) will open in CO 23 without getting stuck on autoloading metadata.

photophart,
same for me : they asked me to deactivate, reactivate. delete user.config profil file. test under a new admin account...
always the same problem.
My files are local but backup on cloud via pCloud.

No word from support for a few days, I am hoping for a resolution before the end of November.

I had the same problem when updating to C23. At the end a restart of my computer helped me out. Then the catalog got changed to C23.

Tried installing the new version of 23. It is 16.0.1.20. Installs fine and actually seems to be converting the Version 22 database. But everything stops after awhile and while I can browse images in the filmstrip I cannot open any of my images as they don't appear in the viewer.

hows everyone getting on with this issue? Im having the same problem with the spinning wheel of death and not being able to use my database.

Installed new version of CO yesterday (ver. 16.0.2.11). Problem persists. Looks like I'm stuck in ver. 22 forever. So yah I'm setting up a new workflow using other software. It's sad because Capture One has lots of things I like but in its present version it is unusable.

photophart This is what I did to finally get my catalogs to work.
I had it set to Load MetaData in Preferences but switched it to None and the catalogs loaded correctly. Once the different catalogs loaded I then Sync'd MetaData (By Ctrl-A to select all images and then Ctrl-S to sync Metadata) and the sync performed quickly and with no issues.
This seems to have solved the issue. In saying that I too have decided to change my workflow after four years on C1 as I can't have this happen again and go two months with little help for C1 support...even now in their support ticket they said they cannot find this bug even though we have at least 5 people that I know of that experienced the same thing.

that trick seems to have worked for me! Thanks!

I see this Issue is alive for more than a year. I try to change my workflow form using only sessions to using catalogues and importing all sessions. BUT I STILL have the same described issue.
I start C1 with the catalogue - and it keeps stuck with autoloading metadata. To the Capture One Support: Is there still no bugfix for this?
As for me it seems that Randy Pollock 's solution is working.
But this also seems no good sign for C1 that a Bug still is not solved after a year ... :(0 -
Well - it seems my Bug is the same. In my case it happens when importing Sessions into a new catalog.
I turned off "Auto Sync XMP" too and it worked.
But it seems there are other problems still persistent, because C1 keeps crashing after minutes after opening. Without doing anything.0 -
It's interesting to see people still having issues with this... I'll be honest and say I gave up and switched back to LR (not classic) and love the updates they have done to allow local editing as well as the cloud storage and editing options. Up until this issue, I had no problems with C1 and still think it's a great program, but once you lose confidence in such an important program as your RAW editor then it's hard to not find something else.
