Capture One freezes when hovering over styles
Hi,
Is it just me or does it seem to be that Capture one 23 freezes when you hover over your styles? It happens every single time.
Edit: It seems that the freezing only occurs on my Capture one Catalog 2022 en not on sessions
Kind regards,
Aaron

Does your hardware meet minimal requirement of Capture One Pro ?
Esp. Graphic card , Memory
Try Edit > Preferences > General and try to set Speed Edit ( if your Graphic card and memory is not issued )0 -
Hi,
Thank you for the suggestion, but the problem of freezing is still there.
My system:
Intel I7-1185G7, 32 gig RAM , NVIDIA GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q, Samsubg SSD 1tb
Speed edit is enabled but the problem of freezing still occurs.
Kind regards,
Aaron

Update:
When I make a new catalog in Capture One 23 and import the "capture one catalog 2022" it doesn't freeze when hovering over styles. So the problem only seems to be on "updated" catalog but does not occur on a new catalog made in Capture One 23

Hello,
Same problem here. C1 23 freezes when hover the styles.
Works well when Hardware Acceleration is set to "Never" in the preferences.
Doesn't have tried Aaron solution yetMy system : Intel i5-4670K, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB, SanDisk Ultra II 480GB
I will continue to work with C1 22 until this problem is fixed on C1 23

Thank you for your information , Wow , your hardware spec is superp !!!
I haven't problem about updated catalog from 22 but never test for import catalog .
I had bad experience about graphic driver of AMD Radeon and I fixed it by downgrade driver to previos version and never upgrade its driver . :)
Sometime , I think your problem don't be from Capture One 23 , it may be from some driver in windows , esp graphic driver.0 -
I am having the same issue. I have a similar system to Qi Au Chen, except My processor is an i7, my video card is NVIDIA 1660 Super, and I work off of an external drive. I've tried all the usual fixes suggested, including moving some files to my internal SSD, but it hasn't resolved the issue. I'm wondering if NVIDIA is the problem.
Please post a fix if anyone has found one.
Thank you.

Same here. My freezing only happens on the Catalog (not Session). I first thought it would only freeze on custom styles, but just before sending this message I retried and it now froze also on built-in ones. Once C1 stopped freezing after more 10 minutes waiting time. Killing the process and restarting then shows the last picture with the last style applied. The CPU and memory go up to 50%. Deactivating HW accelerator did not make a difference for me.
I am running C23 with a Capture One 20/21 Catalog (no more button showed to upgrade) on a SurfaceBook
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30GHz 1.50 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.6 GB usable)
Product ID 00342-23766-04161-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Well, also same here guys. I've already submitted ticket to support and it was qualified as bug. So they're working on the solution (but not necessarily will be included in next release).
TEMPORARY FIX. I've found that when you apply any style (i.e. as the new layer), my C1 doesn't freeze. So.... either apply any style with 1% opacity, or create dummy style which for example changes cyan hue by 0.1 and set also opacity to 1%. It will be slower with this, but haven't froze my pc yet. Then you'll be able to hover/go over other styles.

I am sooo frustrated with this problem!! Just hovering over styles to choose one is a disaster. Let alone actually choosing one.
Tomasz are you suggesting that if you apply a style first and then you can go hover and choose over other styles? Sheesh!

Arthur, that's what I'm saying :)
To get it more clear - you can even create new layer (filled), set hue/saturation to max on i.e. cyan on red. Then try to hover over styles - no lag. Now the best part. CLEAR mask on that layer. You can still hover without problem. BUT if you remove layer - freeeeeeez. Same goes with other styles. If once applied to new layer, no problem later with that image. Have to be done for every image you want to apply styles.
Anyway, bug reported, support mention that it may be resolved later (16.1.1?) - I hope, because the temp fix I've found in fact doesn't help me much since I've got hundreds images per week to deal with, and it's to slow for me to deal like that. Sometimes I do the trick with the layer (cleared mask, or dummy 0.1%) set the style. Copy&Apply to the rest of images. Still, I'd love to have it fixed.

Tomasz, I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work... :(

Okay, I did what aaron did 4 months ago. Created a new catalog and imported the old one into it. Took a while as my catalog is not small.
But it worked. I can now hover over styles without it hanging. So having a fresh catalog must have eliminated the bug. This is not ideal, and I don't know how long this will last, but at least I can get on with it.
Cheers,

Well, creating a new catalog and importing the old one, worked, but really messed up my User Albums. It doesn't import them.
So, I created a template of the old catalog, then used that to create a new one and imported the old one. A Partial success. Sure it imported the Smart Albums but the other albums while listed had nothing in them. NOT good enough. I thought about living with it, but....
When I went to apply a style to an image and hovered over my styles list... yes, you guessed it. CO froze!!
:( Back to square one! I use Tomasz's suggestion when importing, and apply a small style on import, and this helps, and I can get away with it now and then, but after a while CO, behaves the same... freezes. Sometime I wait and leave the machine for half an hour or so, come back and nothing's changed, so have to kill it.
This is such a nuisance!! Please CO, fix this bug soon!

The problem is with all styles, those I purchased through C1, the default C1 styles, and those I've created. Even the most recent ones...
So, how would you update the styles?

Hello folks,
The resolution of this bug is really very slow... Already 4 month that some of us are experiencing that problem
For me, the origin of the bug is coming from the catalog conversion because I don't have the problem with C1 22 and with C1 23 I don't have problems with sessions or new catalog.
I don't want to import an old catalog into a new one. If the problem is really coming from the conversion of older versions to current version then they must fix the bug.
I'm using C1 22 for my previous catalogs
I hope the devs will solve the bug soon

Update to my report 4 month ago: 4 months ago I created a new catalog and imported the old one. The problem with freezing of hovering styles was gone. I now imported some sessions from 4 years ago that I had stored on a separate storage. The problem with C1 freezing with hovering over styles started again! And not only on the imported files, but also on files that were in the new catalog before importing the sessions!
I then created another new Catalog and imported the 'freezing' catalog again and everything works again. No more freezing. Until my next import of an older Session/catalog? When does C1 fix this problem?

I also sometimes had this issue. Then I thought it had disappeared after installing some driver updates. But now suddenly, it reappeared without any system configuration change.
I then played around a lot with C1 and some system settings and found out that the issue seems to only appear on images which still have the default crop after importing them. When I slightly change it, applying the my custom styles is super fast.
So I guess it has something to do with the previewes it creates or so. At least the fix with cloning the catalog (see post above) also hints in that direction.
I hope that works for you guys as well...

I tried almost everything I read here and could think of myself, but the only thing that resolved it for me was creating a new catalog and importing the old into the new. Then everything worked just fine again. Also faster but may be also due to performance improvements in C1.
My lessons learned is that I will create a new catalog with every major release and let C1 import the old one over a few hours. Some clean-up is a nice side effect.
